On Parliament Hill

 One night early this month I went up to Parliament Hill in the evening for the Northern Lights multimedia show, projected onto Centre Block. I didn't realize that this was the first and only show of the evening, and as I was about five minutes or so late for it, I took some random shots in preparation. The presentation shows moving imagery from the country's history, in French and English alternating.

This was the last image I took as the show came to an end.

After realizing that was it, a quandary: what to do? Well, take more pictures around the Hill, of course.

This is East Block.

The Centennial Flame occupies a prominent spot on the Hill, and features the crest of each of the provinces and territories.

Another look at Centre Block.

I made my way towards West Block.

And then went around it to an overlook. The Ottawa River runs between Ottawa and Gatineau, and between Ontario and Quebec. The Supreme Court is off in the distance at left.

A night setting gave a different mood to the shot.

I closed things out by stopping by one of the monuments on the Hill. Robert Borden was the prime minister that saw the country through the First World War.

The Final Act

Up here at the top of the pole, Pancho Libre looked out over his audience.

And did something that would make those with a fear of heights cringe- handstands. All while making it look easy. A fitting ending to a funny act of acrobatics.

Taking in the applause.

And shimmying back down the pole to the ground.

It was here that people started coming forward and tipping him. It became quite a crowd around him, as everyone had been thoroughly entertained. I hope that you've enjoyed this series.

The Heights

 Pancho Libre climbs with such apparent ease that you could describe him as Spider-Man.

And so it was up onto the top of this pole, with the audience in the palm of his hand. We'll round out the series tomorrow.

The Climb

Pancho Libre was about to commence another go at the top, and the crowd was loving it.

 

I think the only contact his body has with the pole at this moment is one foot, and the back of his other leg- and it's the latter that's all that's really keeping him up in the air.

He's obviously quite used to this.
