Deck The Halls

 Each year, the Chateau Laurier has a wealth of Christmas trees inside being decorated by local organizations and businesses, with proceeds going to charity. These are very popular for the photographer, and this year, the Nutcracker ballet was a recurring theme to be found in the decorations. We'll see more of these over the next two days.

Silent Night

 It has been my tradition for Christmas Day to feature churches. This is St. Matthew's Anglican Church in the Glebe, taken in late November, with Christmas lights strung up towards the main entrance.

I was passing again through the Glebe after a December snowfall, and took these two shots of Fourth Avenue Baptist Church.

Just up the street is St. Giles Presbyterian Church.

And here's a look at St. Matthew's in snowy conditions.

Taken during the day, here we see Glebe-St. James United Church, a short walk away.

One afternoon I passed by St. Peter's Lutheran Church, located downtown.

Nearby, and across the street from the Supreme Court, is St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

Lastly, this one was taken yesterday afternoon. This is St. Peter and St. Paul's, an Anglican church in the downtown core.

Market

I've swapped out my seasonal header for a winter one. This was taken beneath the Flora Pedestrian Bridge on the Rideau Canal last February. 

I start today with a night time variant of my first shot from yesterday, with the Christmas tree out front of the Aberdeen Pavilion lit up.

The Christmas market is outdoors, on the north side of the building, and more this year as well on the east side. It's been going on for several years now, and draws on the European style of Christmas markets, with cabins and multiple vendors, as well as music and photo opportunities.

I've had pizza from this vendor at left a couple of times during visits.

These are some of the wares of a particular vendor, Thor's Trinkets. I've bought a number of beer mugs and tumblers from the owner down through the years. This year that included two beer mugs with a Lord of the Rings theme.

The market would have normally wrapped up in the days before Christmas Eve, but is being extended into early January to coincide with the World Juniors tournament. It generally is open from the Fridays into Sundays, so if you're in the area, you still have time. Pick up some strudel from this vendor; they also do pierogies. 

As I mentioned, there is a stage, with an overabundance of Christmas music being performed. Bah, humbug.
