 To start things off today, more shots of Dancer.

Here we have Vulcan At His Forge, a 1750 painting by Pompeo Batoni.

Charles Meynier painted Wisdom Defending Youth From The Arrows Of Love in 1810.

Ernest Bioche de Misery is the impressive name of this impressive painting. This 1807 painting was done by Anne-Louis Girodet de Roucy-Trioson.

We finish today with Bacchus And Ariadne, an 1821 oil painting by Antoine-Jean Gros, evoking the old myth.

The Marble Dancer

 Thayendanegea (Joseph Brant) is a 1776 painting by George Romney, depicting the Mohawk leader during a visit to London. He would fight in the American Revolution on the side of his British allies, and lead his people into southern Ontario following the end of that war.

This bust is Voltaire, a 1778 work by Jean-Antoine Houdon, depicting the renowned French philosopher.

One of the most dramatic works in the Gallery is this large painting. The Death Of General Wolfe is by Benjamin West, depicting the dying moments of the British general James Wolfe at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham at Quebec City, which decided the fate of North America. West painted this in 1770. He would do other variants of the painting, but this one is deemed the primary one.

And here we have Dancer, a marble sculpture by Antonio Canova, dating to 1818-22. She's up on a pedestal, with a playful expression, and looking like she's about to move.

Cherished Abode

We begin today with Sir Joseph Amherst, a 1768 portrait by Joshua Reynolds.

Reynolds painted Charles Churchill in 1755. He was experimenting at the time with pigments that proved unstable; the result is the ghostly pallor of the subject, where colour vanished.

River Landscape With Cattle Watering And Ferryboat dates circa 1754-56, by Thomas Gainsborough.

Here is a wide view of the space we're in at present. At the far end is my favourite sculpture in the Gallery.

The Cherished Abode comes from the French artist Francois Boucher, dating to 1742-43.

Hubert Robert painted Garden Of An Italian Villa in 1764.

To close things out today, we have View Of Lake Nemi, a 1748 oil painting by Claude-Joseph Vernet.

 We begin today with another work by Canaletto, this one being Saint Mark's and the Clock Tower, Venice, dating circa 1735-37.

This sculpture is Venus Plucking Cupid's Wings, dating circa 1715-20. It is by Massimiliano Soldani.

Pietro Rotari painted Young Woman With A Fan around 1754-56.

The Church Of Santa Maria della Salute, Venice is by Francesco Guardi, circa 1780-85.

Peter Lely painted Sir Edward Massey around 1647.

Portrait Of A Man In A Red Coat dates to the early 1770s, by Jean-Baptiste Perroneau.

Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, And His Family is a 1732 work by Gawen Hamilton.

I finish today with Self-Portrait by Benjamin West, circa 1776, a different take on another self portrait that hangs in Baltimore. The display panel features the other version.
