Embassy Architecture In The Snow

I also photographed embassy properties in New Edinburgh during my visit. This is the French embassy, which I've shown before.

A short walk away is the Spanish embassy, which I haven't featured.

And these are views of the South African High Commission, which sits across from Rideau Hall and 24 Sussex Drive. Tomorrow I'll start showing you Rideau Hall in the winter.

A Winter Day In New Edinburgh

I went to New Edinburgh on the 15th of February, Family Day (hence all the snow, which as of this writing is disappearing). Over the next few days, I'll be showing a series from the area. You might remember this building from previous posts- it was an early schoolhouse when the neighbourhood was established, and these days it houses offices.

This home caught my eye.

As did another, Frechette House, which had a historical plaque on it. 

Down the street from Frechette House, and across from Rideau Hall, I photographed St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church again.

Faith And Begorrah In Ottawa

More shots from the St. Patrick's Day parade this past weekend, starting with the saint himself.

Crossing down into the Glebe, I took note of this dog marching with the parade. Other dogs were watching.

And here at the end of the route, at Lansdowne, I wanted a shot with Abbotsford House in the background. I'd caught up to the greyhounds from yesterday as they arrived.

The Parade For Saint Patrick

I have quite a few shots today and tomorrow. The St. Patrick's Day Parade was yesterday here in Ottawa, with the Irish ambassador as Grand Marshall, weaving its way down from City Hall to Lansdowne. I followed the route starting at the main branch of the library.

Hound Of The Baskervilles

I was passing through Lansdowne on the first day of February, when I noticed this photogenic dog waiting for their human. Quite friendly, though the hound wasn't really one for the camera.

Aftermath Of A Snowfall

Picking up where I left off yesterday, the February 16th snowstorm had quite an effect on the city, including here on the Bank Street Bridge, where traffic was slow. Southminster United Church can be glimpsed on the far side.

Below the bridge, few skaters were braving the Rideau Canal that day. I mentioned during my Winterlude series that paramedics patrol the skateway while it's open. The two figures you can faintly see in the distance were paramedics.

The following day, the snowbanks were high in the streets- this one on the left was taller than me.

This view of Parliament Hill was taken from the tourism office terrace across the street, with a big pile of snow in the foreground.

While this view was taken on the grounds of Parliament itself. I think this might well be my favourite shot I've taken of Centre Block.
