Night Skate

The ice was in fine shape during this trip. I have never learned how to skate, and at this point in my life, that won't be happening, but I've always enjoyed walking on the ice of the Canal.

Another look at the ice below.

The Pavilion overlooks the lake at the northwest corner. It includes a restaurant and boat rental facilities, and during Winterlude, a lot of skaters will start their journey here.

For me, it was going along the ice to the northeast, where a secondary staircase off the ice leads to Commissioners Park. My place is beyond that, less than five minutes walk from this spot, and left of the lit apartment building at center.

But one final shot of the Canal looking south from here.

  1. Aha, I thought you were an avid skater. A skater noticed an unusual crack on the frozen lake I photographed earlier in the week. The city was informed and they put up warning signs very quickly. Walking here at night myst be a bit special.

  4. It sounds like you had a lovely time enjoying the ice on the Canal! Walking on ice can be such a unique experience, and it's great that you can appreciate it without needing to skate. The Pavilion and its surroundings must be beautiful, especially during Winterlude with all the activity. It’s nice to hear that you’re so close to such a scenic spot! Thanks for sharing your winter stroll with us. I’d love for you to check out my new post!

  5. There are not many people skating there in the evening, William. It all looks so peaceful.

    1. I prefer it at night to the day, when it can really be too busy.
