Boughs Of Holly

Picking up where I left off yesterday, here are more takes of the Christmas trees around the Chateau Laurier.

This one, adorned with small teddy bears, also had the lyrics to the Teddy Bear Picnic song written on small plates going down the tree.

And this one featured photographs from around Ottawa, courtesy of Ottawa Tourism.

I finish off with this view.

Deck The Halls

I stopped in at the Chateau Laurier some days ago to take in the Christmas decorations.

It has been a tradition at this hotel for years to host the Trees of Hope, a charity benefit for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario's foundation. Businesses and organizations come in to decorate Christmas trees in the lobby areas around the hotel. People can submit their choices for favourite tree, along with a cheque for CHEO, and can come on in and have a look at the trees.

I happened to be before this quite tall nutcracker in the corridor when a staff member came up and we chatted. She said this dates back to the 30s or 40s.

I carried on with photographing. I have more of these tomorrow.

A Silent Night

Merry Christmas!

I tend to do church photos for this day, and that's the case for most of these shots. I start with St. Matthew's Anglican Church in the Glebe. Earlier in the month I passed by on a snowy evening and noticed the stained glass window in the organ loft area above the main entrance was lit up from within.

Centretown United Church is downtown, and this year has had these lit ornaments in the windows of its administration area behind the church.

Here are the wreaths on one of the church entrances.

Wreaths are on the doors at another church, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, which is situated across from the Supreme Court.

The rest of my shots are from different spots. This Christmas tree is in the entrance lobby for the Bank Of Canada Museum, a small currency museum located just south of Parliament Hill. I've been inside since the redo of the premises, and I must take you in there sometime. Probably before Winterlude.

The National Arts Centre has been decorated for Christmas. These wreaths are found above one of the large lobby areas. The second one is particularly appropriate for a place that has music as part of its mandate.

And my last site is the Royal Canadian Mint, along Sussex Drive near the National Gallery. Wreaths are found along its fences and its doors.

Santa Paws

Picking up where I left off yesterday with the Christmas farmers market, here we have some treats.

One of the regular vendors has a deer farm and sells meat. This time of year there are a few additional items around, such as these stockings hanging on antlers.

They also do some thematic sculptures for the season with wood, like reindeer and lanterns.

Maple syrup: proof that God loves Canadians most of all and wants us to be happy.

The deer farm also had these at the other end of their section, nativity scenes that I liked.

A group of singers were singing Christmas carols.

Here we have two more of the dogs that I came across during this visit.

The wares of other artisans caught my eye. Over the next couple of days my online time will be rather limited, but I have posts scheduled, and I'll catch up as time allows.
