I have some odds and ends for the next two days. This first shot dates back to late April, when I was over at the Portage Bridge for my twice a month series. I stopped at Victoria Island, where the old mill that stands here makes for a picturesque photo subject. Off in the distance, Parliament Hill can be seen in the background.
On another day in the first half of May, I was coming from the area of the Chaudiere Falls, heading to the War Museum across a bridge. These willows on the shores of the Ottawa River caught my eye.
Some days later, while photographing tulips along the Rideau Canal, I took this shot of the Canal.
I meant to use this shot for the Shadows theme day, but forgot about it. This old tower structure is on the grounds of the Museum of History, a reminder of the industrial past of the site. It's fenced off, with the interior gated off, but old equipment remains within.
Also on the grounds of the Museum, this red-winged blackbird was perched. I took two shots, being mindful to give it a wide berth. Males of the species are fiercely protective of their nesting area during several weeks this time of year, to the point where they will go after anything big passing too close to the nest.
Heading back across the Ottawa River meant crossing the Alexandra Bridge. I used the bridge infrastructure to frame Kiweki Point, the renamed Nepean Point. That area has been redone entirely on top, and I hadn't been up yet.
At the end of the bridge I stopped at a viewing platform. Work on the bridge closed off access to this platform for a long time, but this used to be the spot I would take my monthly shots of the Hill from. I've decided to stay at the other spot, in a post you'll see in the new year, but took this shot from here.
May also saw the playoff finals for the PWHL. The Ottawa Charge was hosting the Minnesota Frost at Lansdowne, and I was at a game. These are fast paced games, and the women have an energetic hometown fanbase.
The latter half of May sees what is called the Great Glebe Garage Sale. On a given Saturday, most houses in the neighbourhood host garage sales. It makes for delays in your walking time if you're passing through.
And I finish with this shot taken in late May, at Lansdowne, where the RedBlacks football team was hosting a pre-season CFL game. Before the game, as I was passing by, the skies looked ominous. A few minutes later, the storm broke out.
Very nice series, William.
ReplyDeleteIf you cropped the secod photo just a bit, it would look good printed and hung on any wall.
