It was on this date in 2013 that Ottawa Daily Photo first got started. We've come a long way.
Picking up where we left off yesterday, another look at the CF-100.
Here we have a relic of history. Avro underwent the design, building, and testing process for a new fighter-interceptor in the 1950s, the Avro Arrow program. This nose fuselage is the largest piece of the Arrow to still exist. The program was cancelled in a flurry of controversy, and the existing planes were scrapped. An ill-thought decision, I think, and looking at just this section of the plane, one can see the sleek elegance of the design.
A door here leads outside, where one can look out to the airfield that is also here. Mostly small single engine planes, though the runway here at Rockcliffe is a long one. One plane was up and about.
Looking in another direction takes in more of the Museum's collection.
Here we have the Bomarc, the world's first long range anti-aircraft missile, serving in the RCAF and USAF. Not many of them were made, as the Soviets were moving towards intercontinental ballistic missiles.
And here we have the Voodoo, the next stage in Canadian fighter jets during the Cold War.
I love ❤️ your sky photos, William.
