Gothic

 Doors Open is an event series throughout Ontario, when cities and towns on given weekends open up buildings to public visits. In Ottawa, that is the first weekend of June, and I was able to get to a number of sites on the list. Christ Church Cathedral is an Anglican church in Ottawa, with roots dating back to 1832. The current building, in the Gothic style, dates to 1872, and stands on Cathedral Hill downtown.

It is beautiful inside, a mix of arches, stained glass, white walls, and wood.

The stained glass ranges from smaller windows to larger works. Stained glass as a whole particularly appeals to me.

I was heading in the direction of the main altar area, where a member of the congregation was speaking with visitors.

Here we have the pulpit.

The stained glass over the altar is magnificent.

There are memorial plaques here for members of the parish who have served and died in military service, and in one of the side chapels, we find a number of regimental colours, given pride of place here in the cathedral.
