Into Kingswood

A reminder to members of City Daily Photo- the theme day for the first of November is Breakfast.

Here at Kingswood, the name for the first part of the retreat William Lyon Mackenzie King built for himself in the Gatineau Hills, we look towards the guest cottage. This was added on after the main cottage, as King was finding he needed more space for his numerous visitors.

Display panels look at life at Kingswood. King was a man who was always busy with work, but cherished time away in nature, and in the company of family and friends. That, along with his sentimental nature, informs each part of the Mackenzie King Estate.

A look back at the carriage house.

I headed onto the guest cottage verandah, which is wide and welcoming.

And it's welcoming inside.

Here we have the living room, with a checkers board set for play.

I am always one for a good fireplace.

A look into another guest room.

And out onto the verandah. Life at Kingswood was spent outdoors more than inside.
