Hares And Cougars

Two Arctic hares are at the heart of this diorama. 

An opossum is found here.

The last diorama features a female and two cubs: the cougar. We'll take a closer look tomorrow.

The Mustelid Family

 The mustelid family is a diverse group of carnivores. Several Canadian residents are grouped together in this display case, starting with the fisher.

Above are three others: the least weasel, the ermine, and the long-tailed weasel.

Side by side are the American mink and the American marten.

Two aquatic members of the family: the sea otter and the river otter.

Here we have two takes on the American badger.

And two takes on perhaps the most formidable and misunderstood member of the family, the wolverine.

We finish today with two panels.

Sheep And Pronghorns

The next diorama features thinhorn sheep, a species of the northern mountains.

The next diorama features pronghorns of the western plains.

Behold The Mighty Moose

 A moose specimen takes pride of place in this diorama featuring a male in the winter. Panels below give some facts about the species. Other moose can be seen in the painted background.

There's something extra inside the diorama. At the time of my visit, the Museum was doing a scavenger hunt activity, placing birds inside places that were out of the ordinary. One's down on the ground near the moose.

Nearby is a wall of antlers and horns of various animals, large and small.

Faceoff And Defensive Acts

 A panel looks at the dynamic of predator and prey.

This is demonstrated in the next diorama, an encounter between wolves and bison.

In front of this diorama at the moment, presumably moved to allow easier movement through the nearby passage where they usually are as a social distancing measure, are two display cases with animals, both of which have formidable defensive measures. Such as the skunk.

And the porcupine.
