Gold And Red

This is on a street in Centretown.

A few blocks up is Dundonald Park. I took these two shots of the same street a few hours apart.

This is on the north flank of the park.

And this is another few blocks away.

I passed by this area east of the Rideau Canal one afternoon and the red ivy caught my eye. Arts Court is at left, occupying an old courthouse. The Carleton County Gaol is at centre, a former prison that is a hostel these days. And the white structure at right is the expanded quarters of the Ottawa Art Gallery.

On a different day I passed through Dundonald Park again.

Today I leave off with this Centretown view.

Bright Colour

I carried on with my walk along the pathway that parallels the Rideau Canal.

There is a pond here near the Bank Street Bridge that is linked to the Canal. When the water levels are lowered for the winter, it too decreases in level.

Some Canada geese were having a bite to eat along the path. They gave me a look before deciding not to hiss at me.

I liked these colours close by.

Here at the base of the bridge is this sign from the Dutch embassy with landmarks noted in the city, and the distance to the Netherlands. Quite a difference.

Here is the bridge itself. I passed under the arch.

On the other side of the bridge I took this shot of the stadium's south stands at Lansdowne Park.

And I finish today with this view looking east over the Canal from the Bank Street Bridge. I like how the cupola of the Royal College looms over the south shore.

Canal Path

Picking up where I left off yesterday, here were more colours in Commissioners Park.

Here at left is one of the larger flowerbeds. You might remember it from the tulip festival series.

I carried on with the walk. That flash of red-orange caught my eye.

As did the colours here.

The Rideau Canal narrows for its final course through the downtown, at the southeast edge of the lake. The Canal itself is on the far side of the roadway here, but the paths continue.

I continued my walk, and this statue and bench in a private residence garden caught my eye.

I came towards a spot where a tree was in full colours. This tree stands downslope from a familiar building.

The building in question is the official residence of the Greek ambassador.

Here we have the view from the far side of the tree. We continue on with this tomorrow.

Lakeside

I left off in a post two days ago with a photograph taken in Little Italy one day. On the same day, these shots and those to come over the next two posts were taken. This view is at Carling Avenue at the south end of Little Italy, with fall colours across the street.

I headed over to Commissioners Park, which flanks the north and east side of Dow's Lake. The lake is a reservoir for the Rideau Canal. The flowerbeds here are filled with tulips in May. Afterwards plants that last into the fall replace them until it comes time to start putting in the bulbs in October. Some of the beds were already in the process of that happening.

Here we have a view of the lake itself. The Arboretum and the campus at Carleton University can be seen in the background; the Canal waterway lies between them.

I kept to the path along the lake for this part of my walk.

Once in awhile I like to incorporate these Muskoka chairs into a lakeside view.

For today I finish off with this view looking across at Carleton University.

Autumn

One day earlier in the month I walked around at Lansdowne Park. There's a ridgeline alongside the east end of the stadium that I was on in this first shot. I'm looking towards the Aberdeen Pavilion here, and fall colours beyond the lawn.

I moved towards the top, where the Rideau Canal can be glimpsed beyond the treeline in this shot. This bright red tree particularly stood out.

The eastern ridge has its summit here. A light sculpture has been placed on the hilltop, particularly vivid at night. I really should photograph it sometime.

I carried on along the path on the south side of the stadium.

My path took me to a spot that looks across at the cupola just visible above the trees. It's on the other side of the Canal, and used to be a convent. The building houses the administrative centre, the Royal College of Physicians And Surgeons, which oversees med students in the area.

I took a second version of it mostly for the long grasses below, planted at this spot.

From there I proceeded to the Bank Street Bridge for a couple of shots looking east. Fall colours were coming along nicely.
