Fossil Gallery Displays

Here are some more of the fossils on display.

I finish with the display panel and fossil installation of Daspletosaurus, a predecessor to Tyrannosaurus Rex. Tomorrow I'll be wrapping up my series from the museum.

  2. This is quite a vast exhibit. I don't think I've ever seen more than one or two skeletons of this size or scale.

  4. Daspletosarus heads fascinate me. How could those long skinny necks have held the up?

  9. These are, I assume, mostly recreations from some fossils. I can't imagine they've found enough fossils to put together one of these creatures, but then again, I may be out of the loop here. I do relate, though. Lately younger people have used the moniker, "Old Fossil", when referring to me.

  11. Very impressive. It's hard to imagine these giants walked around a few million years ago.

  14. It looks similar to exhibits in the Tyrell Museum in Drumheller. They're great replicas of the real thing.

  15. @Karl: little? :)

    @Jennifer: kids are fascinated by dinosaurs!

    @Lowell: some are recreations- the very light ones, for instance. Others might include fabricated bones to make up for that they can't find, though I have no idea what the percentage of fossils versus reproductions here might be.

    @Halcyon: it is a lot of work.

    @Jan: and they were giants!

    @Norma: they'd make short work of us.

    @Cloudia: you're welcome.

    @Red: I remember that museum from childhood.

  21. @Sharon: it certainly is.

    @Beth: I think they got plenty of exercise!

    @Nancy: I quite agree.

    @Cheryl: we'd be in trouble if they weren't.

    @MB: millions of years apart, and yet not that far away from us.

  28. @Janet: I wonder what the dinosaurs would think of their remains dug up and incorporated into displays.

    @RedPat: yes, they do.

    @Marleen: I think so too.

    @Ciel: it's quite a collection to have.

    @Gemma: and if I've got my history right, this particular gallery once hosted one of our two houses of Parliament during the rebuilding of Centre Block. That makes it fitting- from old living fossils to long dead fossils.

    @Geoff: it definitely is!
