Springtime In The City

I took these shots around the War Memorial on Easter Sunday. This is probably the last unobstructed views of the Memorial for awhile- the site is going to be undergoing maintenance upgrades and sculpture cleaning until early November.

A short walk away, in front of the National Gallery, I photographed the large sculpture Maman at the main entrance, with Notre Dame in the background. Tomorrow I'll show you more shots taken on this day from a spot near here.

  3. Nice that you got shots before the repairs. I love the spider statue! Must be fun at Halloween. Is that celebrated in Canada?

  5. You had me rereading this post as I missed a couple of words . I looked at the background and said that's not the National arts Center so I reread and yes a cathedral. Early spring and few people are around so a good time for photos.

  8. @Tomas: thanks!

    @Marianne: thank you.

    @VP: strangely there's more snow on the ground today than there was on Easter Sunday!

    @Janis: yes, we do Hallowe'en here.

    @Jan: I have featured it before in the blog, though it has been awhile.

    @Red: Notre Dame is quite photogenic.

    @Norma: this one certainly is!

    @Linda: I did too, so a close up on it seemed appropriate.

  9. I saw that spider's sister years ago at the Tate Modern in London. I do hope they never get up and start walking around.

  17. @Sharon: yes, the artist did several takes on that sculpture. I know there's another one in Bilbao.

    @Tamago: I saw that poppy and knew I wanted to photograph it.

    @Carolann: I can see how that spider would end up being a problem for someone with arachnophobia!

    @RedPat: thank you.

    @Halcyon: it was warmer than it is today.

    @Ciel: yes, that's the artist herself. I recall she did several versions of Maman, and had a thing for spiders in her work.

    @Marleen: I've gotten to like it.

    @Beth: they certainly are.

  18. Ach! Spider is like something out of a Hitchcock film. Either that or Steven Spielberg. :-)

  19. Beautiful buildings, but I have no idea why someone would do a sculpture of a spider. No, I'm not afraid of them.
