Today is the last official day of Winterlude, but of course I have many more photos to come. It's also Family Day here, an official day off, so I will be scarce.
On the weekends during Winterlude, there are several times when the ice rink outside City Hall and Cartier Square are given over to skating demonstrations. Young skaters from the Minto Skate Club here in the city went out on the ice and showed their skills. I photographed three sets. The first two are here- a pair of skaters and a solo skater. The third set, another pair, will be used for a theme day later in the year.
They look very graceful.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that these skaters get the opportunity to show off their amazing skills. and of course it goes nicely with winterlude.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved figure skating, I find it very soothing and enjoyable! Lovely photos, William!
ReplyDeleteThey danced with such grace. I love to watch ice skating.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to watch them, I admire their skills!
ReplyDeleteI love watching ice skaters....something I am not very good at!
ReplyDeleteok, this might be the goober in me ... but that is so romantic ... skating in the falling snow .... aww! love it! great moment to capture! well done. i can not even roller skate so i doubt, i would or could roller skate. ( :

@Catalyst: they do. I saw no errors.
ReplyDelete@Red: it does so very well.
@Linda: thanks!
@Nancy: a lot of grace.
@Marianne: they have great skill.
@Janey: I can't skate at all.
@Beth: it made a good photo subject.
@Karl: definitely.
@Tanya: here I think it's provincial, so federal workers might be on the job.
@RedPat: it was!
I enjoy my visits here. These were exhilarating to me in the morning. Found myself thinking that I'd be intrigued to see you experiment with cropping some of your shots?
ReplyDeleteThey look like very talented skaters.
ReplyDeleteThe skaters are great, but the Beaver Tails sign caught my eye!
ReplyDeleteNot many spectators! I think it would be very nice to watch them, we don't have the opportunity here to see them perform.
ReplyDelete@Francisco: thanks!
ReplyDelete@Cloudia: I don't tend to crop most of my shots.
@Sharon: they were. Their skating club has a good reputation.
@Norma: mine too!
@Marleen: most spectators were over at the west side of the rink. That only really shows in the one shot.
Free watch ice skaters and not a hardly a handful of Spectators. What. What a shame. They don't know what they have missed. I love watching it just on T.V. Thanks for the beauty of photos to us all.
ReplyDeleteVery talented skaters enjoying their event. That it's snowing out adds to the scene.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to see the ice skaters. They look very professional.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so graceful. Enjoy your holiday.
ReplyDeleteNeat! I wish i could do that, but my ankles are too weak to even try.
ReplyDelete@Carolann: they did have spectators, just not in the direction I mostly photographed in.
ReplyDelete@Bill: I agree.
@Denise: they do.
@Kay: thanks!
@Linda: I can't!
I've always enjoyed watching figure skating. When my brother and I would skate on our creek as kids I always pictured myself in a big arena with the crowd cheering. The fact that I couldn't even stop unless I skated into a snowbank had nothing to do with it ha ha!
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I could skate ...
ReplyDeleteThe skaters always look so graceful
All the best Jan
Okay thay's cold.
ReplyDeleteRoller skating is fun but ice skating looks so elegant when it's done by professionals. So nice to watch.
ReplyDeleteSo lovely place to make skate dancing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful skill!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely comments - 2 of the kids skating in the show were mine (including one in the ice dance team that you have featured). The kids work hard and it is nice to see it appreciated :)
ReplyDelete@Wendy: I was only on skates one or two times, enough to fall and decide for myself that I didn't want to do it.
ReplyDelete@Jan: these skaters looked very graceful.
@Mari: yes, but the exercise keeps one warm.
@Grace: they were very good at it.
@Orvokki: it's a very good rink to have. People are still going to be making use of it for a little while longer.
@Jennifer: definitely!
@Anonymous: thanks for the reply! It was enjoyable to watch these skaters, and I know the club has a very good reputation. I hadn't actually ever watched figure skaters in person before. These skaters, and the other pair I photographed for another blog, were exceptional!
