Conquest

This pair of mannequins feature an Ojibwa warrior and a French militiaman, working together in the Post-Contact Wars, with shared technology and clothing.

MIlitary formations were founded for the colony during this period. Men stayed on in Canada, and their descendants are still found today.

France of course had its long standing rival Britain in North America, and they transplanted their rivalry to the New World. What was called the Seven Years War was called the French and Indian War in North America.

Along the way, French speaking colonists in Acadia were expelled for a time.

And during that war, the fortress at Louisbourg fell to a British siege. Found here is a French mortar of that place.

A pair of display screens feature re-enactors of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham outside Quebec City. This battle decided the fate of the continent, with both commanding generals, Wolfe and Montcalm, dying of wounds, and the British winning the day.

A model of the Plains of Abraham, with the walls of Quebec City at the far end, is seen here.

  6. Can't imagine having to haul that long rifle around mile after mile, not to mention the ball and shot to go with it.
