Wanderings Of A Canadian Loon Through The National Capital And Beyond
i'm sure those rinks are nothing like that lovely canal in your header!
We have also skating place in middle of Helsinki. And we have lots of skate rinks everywhere, but not in the sea beaches.Your place here is very big and I think it looks very popular.
It is seen that the city has amplitude and can distract their inhabitants.Tomás.
Outdoor skating is the only way to do it!
A big beautiful skating rink out in the open for many to enjoy!
@Tex: a lot more space on the canal.@Orvokki: it is well used.@Tomas: yes.@Halcyon: it is good exercise.@Nancy: and many do.
do you skate? i have always wanted to learn. the hubby roller skates. he has never tried ice skating though? has wondered if it is similar in any way? ( :
much bigger than our little rink downtown!
Skating time is the ultimate winter memory maker! Time to don the skates!JanisGDP
I use to skate....even had my own pair of skates. Too afraid of breaking something these days...but I look to watch.
Beautiful Ottawa. Love to see the skaters.
A lovely place for an ice rink...
I have skated on the Rideau Canal in the past and it has always been a very enjoyable experience. Lovely photos. :)
I like watching skaters, so I hope we will still have a cold winter period.
A paradise for skaters, would love to be there, William !
I probably wouldn't hate winter so much if I knew how to skate!
@Beth: I've never learned how to skate. Ice skating, I think, would be more precise, for lack of a better term, than roller skating.@Tanya: this is a good sized rink.@Janis: at least for those who know how to skate!@Janey: I tried it once as a kid, fell on my butt, decided never again.@Deb: it'll be a short season on the Canal this year.@VP: it is a good setting.@Linda: I've walked on it many times.@Jan: we're finally getting winter conditions. It took awhile!@Karl: it is a destination for skaters, this city.@Norma: I don't know how to, and I love winter!
This looks like a huge outdoor facility. It's a good idea as a large group can enjoy the ice.
Ice skating looks so much fun... of course there's always the problem of 'balance', tricky pastime when you don't have any :)
There appears to be lots of people taking advantage of the rink too.
How I enjoyed skating outdoors when I was growing up. We were fortunate to have an outdoor rink right behind our house and it even had floodlights at night. We spent hours out there no matter how cold it was. I wish I could still skate.
I am afraid I would be one who watches...but I know there are and will be many who will love skating here.
That's me the impatient skater. Not yet a single opportunity here.
I don't skate anymore, not that I have very often and spent more time getting up than swishing around... So I'd join the onlookers!
No crowds, perfect to skate!
I haven't skated in years - I assume your body remembers how to do it, like riding a bike!
@Red: it gets a lot of use.@Grace: I can see that!@Sharon: anytime I pass by, there'll be people on the ice.@Pamela: we didn't have a pond where I grew up, so there was none of that.@Lauren: I do like watching skating.@Stuart: I'm keeping an eye on the Canal, but it'll still be a few days at least before it's opened up for skaters.@Ciel: I would have ended up doing a lot of getting back up if I'd learned to skate.@Marleen: it's quite different on the Canal, for instance, on a weekend!@RedPat: I would think so.
The touch of light glow round the skating areas is enchanting. Looks like romantic scenes.
It looks fun! I took my grandkids ice skating at a new rink that just opened here. They did great!
It's turning colder here, but not that cold.
I'm with Norma. I hate winter. It is too cold for human beings.
That's a big rink and it looks popular. My childhood experience ice skating was a bust. I doubt if there's been any improvement in the non-skating years since.
That is one big rink. We have four or five here but nothing that big.
Not much ice skating here! Our cold temperatures rarely last long.
Oh dear, I started sneezing just looking at the photo!
Well, at least they can enjoy skating in the great outdoors!
After seeing the photos of skaters on the canal, I can;t blame them for being impatient. Somehow skating on a rink isn't quite the same.
We were talking about this the other day. My teacher friend and I used to do this every year between Xmas & New year!
My skating days are over . The skating rings hubby skated on in our younger days. Was like your cannel. Only it was a pond. This year after over 50 years it has closed down. Know more volunteers. I guess the old folks have passed on. They also said a lot of maintenance is need. They had a old pot belly stove inside off the skating area and one could buy hot chocolate. The old 50 songs back then when we skated blasted from the trees. In New Market where I was at my daughters .They have one like this. My grandson skates with his girl.
@Gemma: it does.@Lois: they'd do better than me. I never learned.@Revrunner: here it gets quite cold at times.@Mari: winter is a good thing!@Kay: I know I can't do it.@Anita: it is a good sized rink.@Linda: ours tend to stick around.@Aussie: winter rules!@EG: true!@Beatrice: I would think so.@Jennifer: skating is popular.@Carolann: thanks for sharing.
