The National Arts Centre

I have some shots today from the area around the National Arts Centre. A project is just getting underway here to add a glass framework around the building that'll give things a different look when it's done next year. I am cautiously optimistic, and in the meantime, performances and the work of the NAC will continue during the project. Some of the banners hanging on the walls or the nearby billboards are for recent concerts or events happening soon. You can make out Michael Kaeshammer's banner in the first shot. He's a Canadian jazz musician I've seen in concert before. When you listen to him, you swear there's more than one player at the piano. For a taste of his style, check this out (though like me, you might want to strangle the editor who thought constant quick cut edits was a brilliant idea).

  6. I can see why the need for a glass framework . It looks like the building doesn't have any windows.

  10. @Janis: I'll definitely chronicle the process from time to time.

    @Red: not a lot on the west side, where most of the work is going to be focused, as I understand it.

    @MB: it's a product of 60s architecture- which admittedly was not a good time for architecture in general. Still, the interior appeals to me.

    @Nancy: I have featured looks behind the scenes in a previous series last fall.

    @Linda: thank you!

    @VP: it's a very busy building.

  16. @Tamago: I have seen the artistic interpretations, so hopefully the finished product reflects that.

    @Denise: I've been to concerts here in the various performance spaces. It's a terrific venue.

    @RedPat: it'll take awhile, but I've decided that documenting the process is a good idea.

    @Eve: thank you!

    @Ciel: thanks!

  17. A glass addition sounds interesting. I'll look forward to seeing the finished product. Wow -- that Kaeshammer sure can tickle the ivories! I see what you mean about the fast edits, but I suppose they were trying to keep time with the music.

  18. I am not fond of a lot of glass on a building. I guess they have good intentions though.

  20. @Revrunner: hah!

    @SRQ: great music, but the video production ends up actually hurting the concert as a whole.

    @Mari: indeed.

    @Janey: I think it'll help in the long run- it'll offset the 60s architecture.

    @Kay: I hope so. We shall see!

    @Jan: thanks!

    1. It shows you how time changes- a whole fresh header later. I do recall that period in April was quite cold.
