Colour Flourish

There was an article in one of our newspapers about a tulip I'll be looking for amid the tulip beds. Canada 150 is a new type of tulip developed in collaboration with Dutch tulip growers. It's a white and red flower meant to mark the upcoming 150th anniversary of the country, and for those of us in Canada, the bulbs will be available for planting in the fall, so that they'll be blooming for the anniversary year.

Here are more tulip shots, taken early this past Saturday evening down at Dow's Lake, with the last shot being from a nearby patch of daffodils.

  6. I especially like those deep red ones! Maybe you could send me some. I don't think they grow too well here, though. Must be too hot.

  8. So hard to believe it is just now tulip and daffodil time. I love it when a rogue bulb populates a bed. A dot of yellow here, unexpected red there...

  21. Beautiful displays. The new tulip is to be the flower for Canada. The color of Canada's flag. Some how they have crossed it with some kind of Magic planting. I thought it looked more like pink then red. It was on the news last night.

  24. @Denise: thanks!

    @Red: some of that to come. They plant other beds with colours side by side as opposed to mixing three or four together.

    @RedPat: it's been an odd spring, but it looks like the tulip displays will be quite colourful. I've been photographing more today.

    @Beth: there's a lot of work that goes into it.

    @Carolann: it's a good choice for the anniversary year.

    @Bill: they certainly are.

  27. With so many tulips how in the world can anyone find the Canada 150...unless, of course, it's labeled, or there's a wonderful entire bed of them.

  31. @Jack: I expect it will be.

    @Mari: indeed.

    @Lois: thanks!

    @Linda: thank you.

    @Kay: a good many of the beds are labeled- though if there are three or four different kinds together, you might have to guess which is which!

    @Nathalie: they are, yes.

    @Norma: there's no shortage of them.

    @Cheryl: thank you!

    @MB: I'm planning on going through the park this evening- unless we're having a downpour. I'll be photographing again throughout, and I pretty much know from the video where they'll be.
