A reminder to members of City Daily Photo- the theme for June 1st is Pink. Obviously here tulips will factor into my mix, as my series will be continuing into June. And to those readers in the Ottawa area, Doors Open Ottawa happens on June 1st and 2nd. I'll take in those events that I can.

Carrying on with this journey through Commissioners Park, I have more of the tulips.

And today I have the last of the panels. While Yousuf Karsh was renowned as a portrait photographer in Ottawa, his brother Malak became renowned as a landscape photographer. And he's deemed the father of the Tulip Festival, proposing the concept to the Ottawa Board of Trade in 1951. The festival has gone on ever since.

  1. I can only say "Wow!" to the beautiful tulips.

  2. So many beautiful tulips! The deer eat them here so I can't grow them

  3. Beautiful. And great to have such a festival. All we have is a flower-market one Saturday in spring, so: Thank you for sharing.

  4. Gorgeous! In some of the photos, among tulips are also daffodils ...
    I think it smells like in heaven!

  5. I would love to have a mass display of tulips (or any spring flower) in my garden ... just doesn't happen though. I am glad the public gardeners do it for us.

  6. Lovely tulips. I cannot believe you still have tulips.

  7. Isn't pink the colour for survivors of breast cancer too?

  8. ...the history is wonderful and the tulips are beautiful.

  9. Thank you, Malak, for proposing such beauty and thanks to the city for following through. I especially like the pink ones. :-)

  10. i feel spring weather has been so odd this year ...has become the norm. the weather just changing so easily. makes us wondering what the summer will be like, probably really humid, we will see?! i love these blooms. so many great colors. well done. such a fan. thanks for sharing. i do believe it is one of my favorite series u do around here on your blog. so fun!! ( ;

  11. @Nancy: me too.

    @Pat: apparently planting something else with them- I can't remember what- keeps them away, as the deer dislike the other item.

    @Iris: you're welcome.

    @Ella: daffodils suit tulips.

    @Joan: it works out beautifully.

    @Janis: well, they do bloom in May, after all. This year they've been quite late. I was photographing again yesterday, and there are some bulbs- the Canada 150 type, if I'm not mistaken- which haven't even bloomed yet.

    @Francisco: thank you.

    @David: that is true.

    @Tom: I agree!

    @Anvilcloud: indeed.

    @DJan: it was a wonderful idea.

    @Beth: I have no idea what our summer will be like.

  12. It was a wonderful idea of Mr Karsh William, a beautiful tradition in every way 🌷

  13. Beautiful pink tulips and yellow too :)

  14. The pink ones are so lovely!

  15. Some of these tulips have not fully opened so there is better stuff to come.

  16. Love the pink but the yellow is so cheerful looking.

  17. I love pink tulips. They are so pretty! But also, I love tulips in any colors :-)

  18. They are so lovely to look at, and I have a hunch the aroma is wonderful! Tweeted.

  19. Goregeous displays, William.

  20. @Grace: very much so.

    @Sami: I agree.

    @RedPat: they are.

    @Red: I was back here today. What a difference a few days make.

    @Karl: that they are.

    @Marie: definitely.

    @Tamago: I do too.

    @Sandi: indeed.

    @Mari: thanks!

    @Bill: I thought so too.

  21. Pretty!
    Tulips come in such a wonderful array of colors!

  22. They're coming along beautifully.

  23. It is a beautiful time of the year!! Tulips everywhere!
    Doors Open Toronto is this coming weekend. And so is the Carassauga Festival!! The weekend is not going to be long enough!
    I have not decided which buildings to visit on Saturday.
    Thanks for the info!!!
