Tulips

A reminder to members of City Daily Photo- the theme for June 1st is Pink. Obviously here tulips will factor into my mix, as my series will be continuing into June. And to those readers in the Ottawa area, Doors Open Ottawa happens on June 1st and 2nd. I'll take in those events that I can.

Carrying on with this journey through Commissioners Park, I have more of the tulips.

And today I have the last of the panels. While Yousuf Karsh was renowned as a portrait photographer in Ottawa, his brother Malak became renowned as a landscape photographer. And he's deemed the father of the Tulip Festival, proposing the concept to the Ottawa Board of Trade in 1951. The festival has gone on ever since.

  3. Beautiful. And great to have such a festival. All we have is a flower-market one Saturday in spring, so: Thank you for sharing.

  4. Gorgeous! In some of the photos, among tulips are also daffodils ...

  5. I would love to have a mass display of tulips (or any spring flower) in my garden ... just doesn't happen though. I am glad the public gardeners do it for us.

  11. @Nancy: me too.

    @Pat: apparently planting something else with them- I can't remember what- keeps them away, as the deer dislike the other item.

    @Iris: you're welcome.

    @Ella: daffodils suit tulips.

    @Joan: it works out beautifully.

    @Janis: well, they do bloom in May, after all. This year they've been quite late. I was photographing again yesterday, and there are some bulbs- the Canada 150 type, if I'm not mistaken- which haven't even bloomed yet.

    @Francisco: thank you.

    @David: that is true.

    @Tom: I agree!

    @Anvilcloud: indeed.

    @DJan: it was a wonderful idea.

    @Beth: I have no idea what our summer will be like.
