A closer look at the three cougars in this diorama: first the watchful mother.
And the cubs, with something catching their attention. A close look at yesterday's panel showed an additional specimen: the Townsend's vole. It shows better in person, but that grey shape between the two is it, the object of their attention.
One more panel can be found here.
Coming out of the gallery, a large video screen shows a rotating series of photographs of mammals in the wild.
I would have loved this when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteThe cougars are always beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAwww. Cute (to see from a distance).
ReplyDeleteA few years ago we were on a trail on Vancouver Island that alerted walkers to the presence of cougars. It made us slightly nervous; at the same time hoping we would get a glimpse of one.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and regal creatures.
ReplyDeleteSo elegant and regal!
ReplyDeleteThat cougar seems to have a small head for a big body.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest cats we have here are house cats.
ReplyDelete...some of nature's beautiful critters.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful animals.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a favourite section for me William ✨
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful displays, William.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful wild mammals.
ReplyDeleteThat mountain lion looks very regal.
ReplyDeleteSome of these are very hard to see. I've been in the bush all my life and have only seen a pine martin once.
ReplyDeleteI liked the watchful mother... relaxed but watchful...
ReplyDelete@Linda: me too.
ReplyDelete@Ella: they are.
@Iris: indeed.
@David: I imagine a cougar's natural instinct is to keep away from humans, but the notice on a trail is a good reason to remind oneself to be wary, and to perhaps make some noise while walking.
@Gemel: that they are.
@Magiceye: definitely.
@Anvilcloud: and a big tail.
@Marie: there are some lynx in the countryside here.
@Tom: definitely.
ReplyDelete@Jan: they are.
@Grace: you'd enjoy it.
@RedPat: they are!
@Nancy: indeed.
@Sharon: she does.
@Red: they would be elusive.
@Catarina: definitely.
Beautiful creatures, like the watchful mother.
ReplyDeleteNothing more frightening than a cougar in attack mode.
ReplyDeleteThe lynx is a strange looking cat.
ReplyDeleteSuch great wildlife you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThe cougar diarama is pretty impressive.
ReplyDelete@Karl: I do too.
ReplyDelete@Revrunner: for good reason.
@Maywyn: perhaps, but perfectly evolved. I have seen them a couple of times in the wild.
@Cloudia: there is a lot of variety.
@Bill: I think so too.
That is a great display.
ReplyDeleteI think so.
DeleteI love the big cats. This looks very well done.
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteI have never seen a cougar or a lynx in the wild.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lynx.
DeleteWilliam - majestic creatures, one and all!
ReplyDeleteThey are.
DeleteWe spotted a bob cat around here. No cougars!
