There are two monuments here in the city linked by one theme: tributes to firefighters. This is the first of them, the Ottawa Fire Fighters Memorial, situated downtown at City Hall and Cartier Square. It pays tribute to firefighters who have died in the line of duty from the earliest days of the city to the present day. That includes deaths during fire calls and from illnesses drawn out of the job. It consists of two statues, as well as panels with information on Ottawa fire fighters who have given their lives in the line of duty. Tomorrow I'll be showing you the national fire fighters memorial.
We must have something to honor them, to people who help others.
