A Monument For Ottawa Fire Fighters

There are two monuments here in the city linked by one theme: tributes to firefighters. This is the first of them, the Ottawa Fire Fighters Memorial, situated downtown at City Hall and Cartier Square. It pays tribute to firefighters who have died in the line of duty from the earliest days of the city to the present day. That includes deaths during fire calls and from illnesses drawn out of the job. It consists of two statues, as well as panels with information on Ottawa fire fighters who have given their lives in the line of duty. Tomorrow I'll be showing you the national fire fighters memorial.

  1. We must have something to honor them, to people who help others.

  2. Great to see firefighters be recognised, they do a fantastic job, that a marvellous statue..

  3. Thank you to all firefighters for risking their lives fighting fire and danger.

  4. I am happy to see this monument honouring our firefighters, William. I think firefighters everywhere, all over the world, are heroes and we shouldn't forget all they do to save humans...and animals, too! Thanks so much for this. :)

  5. That is special a monument for fireworkers, I have never seen one before.

  6. Brave men! I really like this one!

  7. You mean there are 24 firefightes just in Ottawa who have lost their lives!?

  8. Wonderful memorial! Firefighters deserve to be thanked and remembered!

  9. This is so good to see - that your city recognizes and appreciates the invaluable service rendered by the firefighters!

  10. Now that's a statute that I really like as it's meaningful and I'm sure families would like it.

  11. Excellent! You really do have some brilliant memorial sculptures in Ottawa William.

  12. This one looks very similar to the one we have here. Very nice memorial.

  13. @Tomas: it is.

    @Geoff: the sculptor had the right idea for this one.

    @Nancy: it's a tough, risky job.

    @Linda: they really are.

    @Marianne: I'd wondered if other cities or countries have them.

    @Janey: it is.

    @VP: thanks!

  14. @Furry Gnome: I haven't counted them, but that's going back more than a century and a half.

    @EG: they definitely do.

    @Lowell: it was a good idea to erect this monument.

    @Lois: it is, yes.

    @Red: it's a good contrast to the one I'll show tomorrow.

    @Grace: we do, yes.

    @Sharon: it's good to know there are other memorials out there to fire fighters.

  15. Beautiful sculptures. We take firemen for granted too often, I'm afraid.
