In late November, on a day that I had the camera along to get some shots in for the last theme day, there were brooding skies. I took this photo from Major's Hill Park, overlooking the Ottawa River and Gatineau.
This one has a view of the core of the city around the Rideau Canal, as I was crossing the Mackenzie King Bridge over towards the National Arts Centre.
Around the NAC are billboards for upcoming performances. Through December, the Centre has been putting on Christmas related concerts. This display for Handel's Messiah was one of them; it brought out a memory that I went into at my writer's blog a few days ago.
This also included a Christmas concert by the Nova Scotia fiddler Natalie MacMaster, who I've seen in concert.
I stopped by in the evening and took this photograph of another Christmas concert billboard, for Canadian jazz singer Emilie-Claire Barlow, who I've also seen in concert.
Ottawa must be a wonderful city, it has some pictures of delirium.
ReplyDeleteTomás.
I love your first two photos! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of entertainment in Ottawa.
ReplyDeletelots going on!
ReplyDeleteWe certainly live in a beautiful city, don't we. I have enjoyed your photos so much throughout the year, William, and want to wish you and all your loved ones a very Merry Christmas. I hope Santa is good to you. Here's to a wonderful year ahead. Hugs, Deb and her crew. xxx
ReplyDeleteThe second photo is especially scenic!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures of the river and canal.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the photogenic skies above the posters.
ReplyDeleteLove the term "brooding skies."

GDP
@Tomas: that's a good way to put it.
ReplyDelete@Linda: thanks!
@Marianne: a great deal, yes.
@Hilary: the NAC had a whole lot going on.
@Deb: thank you!
@EG: I certainly thought so.
@Nancy: thanks!
@Jan: thank you.
@Janis: it seems appropriate here.
The skies may be moody but the concert scene is jumping in Ottawa.
ReplyDeleteI love that second shot. The sky is so winterish!
ReplyDeleteBrooding indeed. We are supposed to have those clouds this afternoon with some rain by evening.
ReplyDeleteI love both Messiah and N. MacMaster but I've only ever seen Messiah!
ReplyDeleteThe second image is a fine view of the canal and nearby buildings - so interesting. And the signs are most attractive.
ReplyDeleteMessiah Messie?
ReplyDeleteNice views in the top 2 photos!
ReplyDeleteI like the brooding sky picture and the second shot with the canal running between the buildings..
ReplyDeleteThe offerings of a big city. A town near here had a famous pianist at their Messiah concert. I was too sick to even think about it. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteNeat city shots. I can't imagine ever living in a big place like that, but it must be a new adventure every day! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeletei want to see a show. what fun. i think the last one i saw was miss saigon. now when was that. or phantom of the opera in new york city. ( :
ReplyDelete@Red: there's particularly a strong concert tradition here in the summer with music festivals.
ReplyDelete@Sharon: it was that day.
@Linda: we've had rain off and on through the day.
@Ciel: I don't know how much touring she's done over in Europe.
@Gemma: I quite agree.
@VP: English and French!
@Marleen: thank you!
@Geoff: thanks. I took other shots on that day, but I'll be leaving that for a post after New Years.
@Mari: I've seen it several times at various venues, and it never gets old.
@Terri: it's a city I love living in.
@Beth: there's a pretty active theatre tradition at the NAC. I know occasionally touring productions turn up here, and there's been a production on stage this month based on the Anne of Green Gables tales.
As I've told you, I love that canal and the majestic buildings that surround it! Glad to see you're getting out to see some concerts!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery! We lived near a good venue for live performances in California. It's a real spoiler to see music live.
ReplyDeleteMore to do in your area than in our town. Pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteThose first two images are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe two first photos are lovely.
ReplyDelete@Lowell: the view north from that bridge is one I love to photograph.
ReplyDelete@Kay: there's a lot of music here through the year.
@Whisk: there's a good deal, yes.
@Norma: that seems a common feeling!
@Orvokki: thank you!
Have a very Merry Christmas William. Thank you for stopping by and commenting as much as you do. I always enjoy seeing them. And great photos by the way - as always :)
