I carried on with my walk. This view looks up the slope towards the house at Moorside. The second shot is taken a short walk away.
I carried on in the direction of the paths leading towards the fenceline. Another folly was beyond the fence.
Another quote by King forms a sign alongside the path: "let no word or thought enter there which was not the holiest and best."
The Abbey is the folly found here in the clearing amid trees. King acquired bits and pieces of older buildings in Ottawa over time and had this assembled here. It has the look of an old church ruin, and it is a marvelous subject for the photographer- especially in fall.

ReplyDeleteThis looks like a perfect place for a fall walk. You've made me remember a day a very long time ago back in my home town of Quincy Illinois. (I was somewhere around 20 years old so you know it was a long time ago.) A friend and I decided to go for a long walk to admire the trees. I can still remember the sound of the crunch of the leaves under our feet. That was such a memorable walk.
