Tulips Within Confederation Park

Confederation Park downtown has tulips in May. Unlike around Commissioners Park, I believe the habit here is to leave the bulbs in the ground after the tulips are done. This shot is from one of the entrances into the park, with spring blossoms in the trees around.

Stepping into the path and taking a closer look, this also gives a view across the street. The Lord Elgin Hotel is across from Confederation Park. The Canada 150 tulip is dominant here in the park. This year this particular type of tulip was late in showing itself. It was developed for the anniversary year in 2017, and features a white and red combination.

Confederation Park has a number of military monuments on the grounds.

This is one of them. The National Aboriginal Veterans Monument uses First Nations symbols, animals, and four people as part of the whole. It is a formidable sight to behold.

  10. That's a very fine tulip, I wonder if the flowers remain that colour over the years or if they gradually revert to other colours; I certainly had some that did that. The monument looks amazing.

  12. Those 150s look great. I really like the First Nations Vets statue, would love to see more of it. As a sculpting potter, I'm interested in other sculptures!

  16. @Maywyn: yes it is.

    @MB: so do I.

    @Fun60: it's a fun one, but it was late this year.

    @Rosemary: spring took its time showing up.

    @Ella: thank you!

    @Iris: that it is.

    @Francisco: thanks!

    @Nancy: it is a different sort from the solid colours.

    @Tom: I agree.

    @David: you should see it sometime.

    @Jan: I would be surprised if they turned up there.

    @John: I know there's a type of tulip that's similar to this one, but with purple as opposed to red, and it precedes the Canada 150.

    @Anvilcloud: I wonder why you've had issues with the ones in your garden.

    @Barbara: I like photographing it from time to time. I'll do so again at some point soon.

    @DJan: you're welcome.

    @Red: they do.

    @Eileen: thanks!

  18. I so appreciate this. I could do tulips in Washington, but they just do not do well in the desert even when you put the bulbs in the freezer. I really appreciate the photos. Tweeted.

  21. @Jennifer: if I ever tried to plant any flowers, it would not end well.

    @Marie: I agree.

    @Mari: thank you.

    @RedPat: these ones have, and there have been others around that are looking good, but they were the last of the tulips to bloom this year, for whatever reason.

    @Bill: I do as well.
