Portraits And Sculptures

George Berthon painted Mrs. John Beverly Robinson in 1845.

This painting is called Harmony, by the artist Robert Harris, painted in 1886.

Logging is the title of this large painting by George A. Reid, done in 1888.

Nearby stands a display case with a ceremonial robe and other regalia of the Haida. The robe is on extended loan, but still used in ceremonies, so I've had occasion to visit in the past and found it absent at the time.

Stepping out into the other interior courtyard gives us a view of the reflecting pool here. Several small sculptures are on the far side.

  1. I have missed being here for several days but I am back! LOL Love the Mrs. Robinson painting---so sweet. Of course I really like the Haida ceremonial getup. The Rideau chapel is breathtaking.

  10. @MB: thank you!

    @Linda: it is.

    @Francisco: thanks!

    @Gattina: I agree.

    @Iris: quite true.

    @Tom: the robe is a stunner.

    @Eileen: thanks!

    @Grace: there is.

    @DJan: definitely.

    @RedPat: in part, the numbers of people inside are controlled at present because of Covid. However, when I photograph, I do try to minimize the presence of people more often than not. I had a couple of occasions during this visit when I photographed art more from the side, simply because of the social distancing issue. But most of the visitors I encountered were quite adept at maintaining a distance from each other.

    @Red: there is indeed.

  17. Portrait galleries always intrigue me. I've tried a dozen times and failed. I so admire the artists who can pull it off.
