Study Of Cultural Contrast

Three more views inside the Rideau Chapel for today.

I returned into the main part of the permanent collection. This is an altarpiece by Francois Fournier titled The Baptism Of Christ, dating to 1832-37.

Standing across from it is a coat of caribou skin, sinew, and paint by an unknown Naskapi artist of the early 18th century, a formidable contrast of cultures.

Today I finish with this portrait that I'm often drawn to when I come here. Theophile Hamel painted Henriette Massue Le Moine in 1854.

  3. I am still miffed that we were not permitted to take photos anywhere but in the main halls when we last visited, including the chapel or even that garden near it.

  10. @Francisco: thanks!

    @Karl: it is indeed.

    @Eileen: thank you.

    @Anvilcloud: the rules changed three or four years ago, I believe. For the most part, unless a work of art has a designated no photos sign on the display panel, photography is allowed, sans flash.

    @Tom: so it seems.

    @Marie: it is, yes.

    @Red: very much so.

    @Jeanie: thank you!

    @RedPat: me too.

    @Sharon: thanks!

    @Bill: yes it is.

    @Denise: I agree.

    @DJan: thank you.
