Very Cold

I left off yesterday showing you some ice sculptures in progress back in 2014. This is another one in Confederation Park, with blocks of coloured ice added on.

Very big snowshoes.

A pair of large ice sculptures lit up at night. These two bears mark the friendship of Canada and a reunited Germany; a maple leaf is on one, and the Brandenburg Gate is on the other.

The Rideau Canal is very much the heart of Winterlude. This photograph is taken from on the Corktown Pedestrian Bridge, which links Centretown on right with the campus at the University of Ottawa on the left.

Down I went to the ice surface.

And a view back at the bridge from the surface.

Further up along the skateway lies the Pretoria Bridge, a unique lift bridge over the Canal with distinctive turrets. It is named after the avenue that traverses it, which in turn was a nod to the South African War.

A view from above. More tomorrow.

  2. This made me laugh big.
We have a festival where a fake bear is involved.
Ages ago at that time the police got a call, there is a bear. Yah, a bear, we know.

It was a real one!!!! (My home city is near the Harz Mountains and that baer went for a longer walk!).
No bears in Berlin, though, I think.

    Great ice-skating pics.

  5. You Canadians know how to make the most of your snow and ice and how enjoy it. If it snowed like that here, I think that our country would come to a grinding halt!!!

  15. I’ve only taken in some of Winterlude once, but I am glad that I did. I’ve only been on the Skateway once at the same time as Winterlude — just walking.😎

  18. Good to see the ice sculptures again. BTW, I just checked the temperature here--13 degrees Celsius. A bit too warm for ice. :-)
