As I mentioned yesterday, the discovery of the remains of a family that was buried some four thousand years ago along the Pacific Coast became a collaboration between archaeologists and the community themselves. The bodies were excavated, scanned with laser scanners to render three dimensional models. They were buried with over three hundred fifty thousand beads, suggesting they were of importance to the tribe. After the research was completed, the bodies were returned to the community for reburial. The scanning was programmed into this display in consultation with the shishalh community, bringing the family to life in a video display. It's not just a picture. They breath, blink, and change position, as though looking back at the visitor through thousands of years of time.
Very impressive work.
