An Angel Within A Tombstone

Victoria Daily Photo has been showing cemetery photographs over the last few days. It reminded me of this beautiful tombstone in Woodlawn Cemetery in Guelph.

  4. Like a quiet doorway to the other side and a welcome waiting. Quite a moving, unusual piece of art.

  6. So unique. It does evoke a metaphor of transition from one place to the next.

  7. That is really beautiful tombstone. Never seen something like this. It looks extra beautiful covered in snow. I can almost hear sound of silence.

  8. What a pretty picture with the snow.

  9. Now that is unusual! I like it, but the poor angel looks a little cold. Just one question, though: Aren't angels supposed to be spirits? If so, we know that spirits have no physical form or presence, so why ... oh, never mind. It's too early for theological reflection this morning! :)

    @Gemma: that's a good way to put it.

  16. In the old days some of the grave markers were very large and ornate. I think we've lost something where today we are only allowed a flat stone at soil level.

  18. @Sharon: neither have I, but then who really spends much time in cemeteries?

    @Red: this cemetery has a mix of both, the old and the new. I have family members buried here.

    @Halcyon: I thought so.

  20. This is both melancholy and beautiful! You've just reminded me that it's been a long time since VDP has roamed Versailles' graveyards...

  21. @Pamela: It reminds me I should visit a couple of the cemeteries here in Ottawa. Perhaps in spring.

    @Denise: and yet it's not over the top as I've seen in other tombstones.

    @Ciel: I thought about wandering into one here last summer, but for whatever reason I didn't, and I still haven't gotten to one. I will wait though for warmer weather.

    @Marleen: thanks!

    @RedPat: I thought so. I'd like to photograph this particular stone in summer.

  24. I've not seen one quite like this before. I like its sense of being almost a doorway. It's very nice. The snow adds a good touch, too.

  26. It's wonderful. Perfect with the snow.

  27. It is good of them to erect a shelter for the statue, given how cold and snowy it can get up there.

  28. A nice, moody shot. Perfect for the season.
