Strathcona Fountain

When I started my Doors Open series, I mentioned stopping in at Strathcona Park in Sandy Hill before the weekend's festivities got underway. Today I'm starting the first of three posts on the place. This fountain can be found at one of the entrances to the park, which is nestled along the Rideau River on the eastern edge of the downtown core.

A reminder to City Daily Photo members: the theme day for the first of August is about bicycles.

  9. Fountains so soothing when running in July's heat. So depressing in winter's ice.

  11. It's a classic style of fountain which catches our attention. Fountains today are a much different style.

  12. @Linda: thank you!

    @Ciel: no doubt the odd person tosses some of the water in their face on a hot day.

    @Lois: I thought so myself.

    @Birdman: that's quite true.

    @Nancy: it certainly does. What I have tomorrow is quite different.

    @Red: all too true. There's a very modern water feature in the Byward Market that I've never photographed.

  18. It is a beautiful fountain, fountains with statues, that's one of my favorite combinations.

  19. This is a tough fountain to photograph, with the wide overhang shadowing the figures below. Did you think about trying a filler flash?

  20. Smashing William, the sound of water splashing from a fountain...wonderful

  21. @Marleen: I was pleased to come across it.

    @Judy: it certainly did seem like an old fashioned one.

    @Linda: me too.

    @EG: it was certainly a good deal taller than me.

    @Linda: thanks!

    @Revrunner: I have some ideas.

    @Denise: fountains here don't have the old European look, though this is an exception.

    @RedPat: thanks!

    @Norma: I think so too.

    @Jack: I did think afterwards looking at the shots that I should try experimenting with flashes the next time I'm there, or a different time of day.

    @Cheryl: they are.

    @Whisk: thanks!

    @Geoff: it certainly is.

  22. Lovely. Two days ago I would have been groaning about all that water, but Southern California has actually had water.

    @Jan: very much so.
