Venus is a Dutch busker whose specialities include juggling and the art of the diabolo, which you learn more about here. I caught her act a couple of times over the weekend, once when she was juggling torches with the help of a bystander she'd brought into the ring, and the second when she was juggling other items and then going to work with the diabolo.
Venus is a demanding name, I see she is very good with fire!
ReplyDeleteStreet entertainment at its best. Like that street art you shared in a earlier post too. And, look at all those spectators.
ReplyDeleteFun to see the kids enjoying the show. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh boy, a lot of tricky trics.
ReplyDeleteNice to see we are exporting some street acts too. :-)
ReplyDeleteA good time was had by all. That's quite a crowd!

Her juggling acts is a great crowd puller. She has great skill!
ReplyDeletePlaying with fire and diabolos you'd better have perfect timing hey William :)
ReplyDeletelooks like good exercise. ( :
ReplyDeleteAnother interesting show :)
ReplyDeleteEver wonder what possessed a person to take up this art?
ReplyDeleteIt takes guts for somebody to walk on the stage cold and participate in juggling with fire. I look forward to tomorrow's post as this looks interesting.
ReplyDelete@VP: she certainly is!
ReplyDelete@Lauren: there were a lot around her!
@Revrunner: anything that sparks their imagination is a very good thing.
@Marianne: indeed!
@Jan: yes, and she was fun to watch!
@Janis: this was quite typical of busker acts, the crowds like this.
@Nancy: she certainly does!
@Grace: you must, absolutely.
@Beth: it looks like a good way to keep in shape.
@Karl: indeed. I'd seen the diabolo used before in other acts, but hadn't known the term.
@Sharon: a creative spark would be one thing.
@Red: it really does, yes! Tomorrow's act is from the same location as most of these shots.
Venus looks like she enjoys performing! Nice smile.
ReplyDeleteLooks like people are having lots of fun! Including Venus!
ReplyDeleteShe seems entertaining. Good pictures.
ReplyDeleteThat torch juggling is amazing. She looks really talented!
ReplyDeleteAnother fun act! Torch juggling I find fascinating!
ReplyDeleteThe diabolo seems diabolical! What a great time this must have been. I know I would have gotten all fired up!
ReplyDeleteThis must need a lot of skills. Exciting!
ReplyDeleteSo many people came out to watch, William!
ReplyDeleteWhile I have never been to a street festival that featured buskers, after seeing your posts on this event, I will definitely be on the lookout for any future ones.
ReplyDeleteAnother impressive act!
ReplyDeleteThere are always funny, unique things happening in your town!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it!
Ya, impressive, BUT can she juggle chainsaws?
ReplyDelete@EG: quite a smile!
ReplyDelete@Cheryl: definitely!
@Eve: she was quite entertaining.
@Tamago: indeed she was!
@Ciel: it takes a lot of practice.
@Lowell: it's a trick I've seen before, but this is the first year I know the term for it.
@Marleen: it was a blast watching!
@RedPat: they really do.
@Beatrice: some of the buskers from here went out to Edmonton, where they've got one going on right now, and others to Edinburgh in Scotland for a show.
@Halcyon: indeed!
@Gunn: there is a lot going on here.
@Birdman: hah!
Obviously she drew quite a crowd, I really like the striped shadows falling across the pictures, very atmospheric...
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to spend the day.
ReplyDeleteShe has attracted a good crowd.
ReplyDeleteWhat an entertaining weekend! So many interesting acts. Do the buskers get paid to do this?
ReplyDeleteWow. This really looks like a jammed packed load of fun. Just think, soo enough that very place they stand, will be covered in snow.
ReplyDeleteShe is really skilled! She had the crowd totally in her thrall!
ReplyDelete@Geoff: actually that's the crosswalk, painted zebra stripes like that on the street. They close down the streets running along Sparks a block south for the weekend.
ReplyDelete@Mari: it certainly was.
@Jack: yes, she did!
@Kay: yes, the audience pays them at the end of the show, a pass the hat sort of thing. It is a full time job, really, in terms of all the work they do.
@Whisk: oh, I'm looking forward to the snow!
@Tamera: a good busker has to be able to engage their audience, and she certainly did.
Now that is a creative, unusual act. Juggling fire is quite a feat.
ReplyDeleteIt is!
