Fireweaver Sophie

Sophie the fireweaver was another act I caught during the buskers festival (though I wasn't around when the torches came out). She incorporates dance, juggling, and the performance style of poi into her act. When I came across her on Sparks Street, she was juggling before moving into some knifework. And yes, it did end up looking like she was dancing.

  10. Putting fire and knives in the mouth are scary acts to me. Usually we see men doing this act. She is a very brave person and knows what she is doing.

  13. @Whisk: wow indeed!

    @Kay: it must take a lot of practice. I should have taken in an evening show where fire would have been involved.

    @Cloudia: definitely!

    @Orvokki: these shows really bring out the crowds.

    @Marianne: I've seen buskers do that too!

    @Marleen: she certainly does.

    @Revrunner: mine too.

    @Blogoratti: it was.

  14. @Hilary: it certainly was!

    @Janis: I wonder if such an event happens in your area.

    @Grace: one mistake could be costly!

    @Tex: definitely.

    @Nancy: she's been doing this for awhile, so she knows her work.

    @Lauren: and she's got the audience in the palm of her hand.

    @VP: she definitely is!

    @Jan: I really think so.

  15. Many of these performers have gone to training schools where they learn the tricks of the trade. This one has been able to use the tricks of the trade for a first class show.

  22. @Sharon: she certainly is.

    @Karl: thank you!

    @RedPat: she definitely does.

    @Cheryl: it refers to both the equipment- things like sticks, torches, blades, and the like, and the style of performance, which is at its basic the spinning movement of these objects and items. At least that's how I understand it.

    @Tamago: it was!

    @Ciel: it was a blast!

    @Norma: neither would I!
