Rideau Hall is the official residence of the Governor General, and the property, consisting of nearly eighty acres, is the most prominent place in New Edinburgh. A good portion of the land is open for the public to stroll. This open area on the west side is a cricket pitch in warmer seasons.
Looking the other way gives a view of the visitor centre.
And this is the rose garden, buried under snow when I was here.
Coming up out of the rose garden takes us to one of the driveways, as well as to some of the ceremonial trees planted on the property by various dignitaries over the decades.
That is quite a lot of snow. After this I hope the rose garden will be growing and blooming as before.
ReplyDeleteThe scale of this residence reflects the immensity of Canada!
ReplyDeletethanks for the nice dose of winter!
ReplyDeleteSnow and more snow!
ReplyDeleteYou have to start already to teach the nascent flowers, we are in spring.(Just kidding). It is very soon in Canada...?.
ReplyDeleteTomás
Your going to have to return and show the roses when they come out and see if the survive the snow
ReplyDeleteBeautiful winter photos, William !
ReplyDeleteThe snow is here mostly gone...
@Nancy: it comes back each year.
ReplyDelete@Cloudia: it's quite a spread.
@Tex: you're welcome.
@Kay: oh yes!
@Tomas: gradually, though we have had snow in the last couple of days.
@Bill: I plan to.
@Karl: a lot of it here is gone.
Seeing these images really reminds me how much I missed having a snow fall this year here in Coventry. Oh well...I can enjoy your shots all the more :).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful winter scenes around Rideau Hall William, looking forward to seeing the roses also!
ReplyDeleteThere was a lot of snow to walk through.
ReplyDeleteThat sure looks nice place to stroll around.
ReplyDeleteThe rose garden must look beautiful in blooming season!
lots of tracks, some one needs a snow shovel or two. ( :
ReplyDeleteLove the contrast in the sky between photo #1 and #2. We are so over winter that I can look at these photos with great nostalgia!
ReplyDeleteJanis
GDP
I can see some similarities between Ottawa and Gotham City. The sun never seems to shine in Gotham, and Ottawa seems to always be covered by snow....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful snow and sky! :)
ReplyDelete@Lauren: and it's snowing again today!
ReplyDelete@Grace: it'll take those roses awhile!
@Marianne: there was, yes.
@Tamago: it certainly is a good place to wander in many seasons.
@Beth: or a snow blower!
@Janis: winter's wonderful.
@Norma: hey, we do get a summer!
@Linda: thanks!
That's a great winter visit. It shows by the bright snowy photos you took. The tree thing is interesting as every little town has the specially planted trees. We have lots of them.
ReplyDeleteIt seems there's no end of all the snow ... it's like a fairytale.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing these winter scenes....in photos.
ReplyDeleteNot many people around, some impressive views!
ReplyDeleteNice winter views. Looks very cold and crisp.
ReplyDeleteDid you see Justin and the kids?
ReplyDeleteThis is darned appropriate today! what a mess out there!
ReplyDeleteIt looks quite cold, but also lovely in the bright sun. You caught some great shadows.
ReplyDelete@Red: in this case, they're heads of state and royals!
ReplyDelete@Jan: I've got snowy shots into April.
@Sharon: but snow is so fun!
@VP: there weren't too many people around, but some were present on the property.
@Bill: it was such a nice day.
@RedPat: Nope! That part of the property's fenced off.
@Jennifer: it's quite a snowy day... a fine powder, actually.
@Marleen: thanks, and more of those shadows to come.
The snow is fun to look at, from afar! LOL! But your tulips are awesome in the header! Sigh- the colors are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWould seem like it's going to be some time before that field sees a cricket match. :-)
ReplyDeleteAre you in the same area where there is a storm watch William? A friend of mine said they are expecting a lot of ice where she is in Ontario. If so stay safe. Your snow photos are very picturesque.
ReplyDeleteStay safe if that storm is headed for you. Your pictures had more than enough snow for me.
ReplyDeleteSmashing pictures William....
ReplyDeleteI love the snow but I'm thrilled to be outside in the garden, these days. Cheers and boogie boogie.
ReplyDeleteEiyiyi!!! All that snow! I totally get why you posted that lovely tulip garden as your banner!!! When we lived in Mammoth we had snow until May or even June or July!!! Come March and April I was pining for flowers!!!
ReplyDeleteYou were there on a bright and sunny day, that turned all into brightness or deep shadow. Hard photography conditions.
ReplyDelete@Terri: there's quite a difference between these shots and a spring header!
ReplyDelete@Revrunner: I've seen the game being played on a couple of visits.
@Denise: we can handle winter storms nicely.
@Mari: thanks!
@Geoff: thank you!
@Whisk: thank you.
@Chieftess: we can expect snow into April.
@Jack: true!
