Down at Dow's Lake, there is a portion of property that belongs to the military. In the last few years the buildings on the property, which dated back to the Second World War and were named after a ship of that time, were torn down to be completely replaced by new facilities. The new main building was open as part of Doors Open, and it is the building still named for that ship, the HMCS Carleton. This was on the Sunday of the weekend, which turned out to be a rain soaked day. While I didn't take part in the tour, I did spend some time in the front area of the building, photographing a few uniforms and artifacts on display for the occasion. The new building has something of a naval feel, which is appropriate, as these grounds are used as a training and logistics facility for the Navy Reserve.
Looks like a fine display.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting looking at the items that people wore at that time.
ReplyDeleteI like the old costumes.
ReplyDeleteLove the vintage uniforms. Such clean lines and practical, yet stylish!

ReplyDelete@Bill: I agree.
@Marianne: they are good uniforms.
@Janis: indeed.
@Grace: it was a drenching kind of day.
@Beth: I did like the bell!
Don't much care for the building but its contents are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe place was probably feeling right at home surrounded by all the wet weather.
ReplyDeletethat's a good use of space where they train reserves and show the past. Our reserves still train in a WWII building.
ReplyDeleteI love the second image...and the new header photo!
ReplyDeleteI like the lake, too! And that sailor uniform is very familiar to me!
ReplyDelete@Cheryl: I have to photograph it from the other side... and in better weather!
ReplyDelete@Sharon: it was a downpour sort of day.
@Red: the old buildings very much looked of that era.
@Norma: it was a good time to switch.
@Lowell: the new building very much opens a view out.
How nice!
ReplyDeleteI like the old bell of the HMCS Carleton.
ReplyDeleteThe rain suits a naval building!
ReplyDeleteYou find and expose such interesting and worthy places, William!
ReplyDeleteI picture them dancing without heads and hands, as soon as the lights go out.
ReplyDelete@Linda: thanks!
ReplyDelete@Jan: I did too.
@RedPat: strangely, yes.
@Cloudia: thank you!
@Whisk: that would be something to see.
That weather looks very familiar! That brass bell looks irresistible and I like the handiwork on that pull.
ReplyDeleteThat was a downpour of a day.
DeleteLovely weather, eh? We got it here too. I like the ships bell--is that 1941?
ReplyDeleteMB
