Here are some more shots from the old Carleton County Gaol today, taken on Doors Open weekend. Aside from serving as a hostel, the building does have a series of panels along the old cell blocks telling its history. There is a tour company that does haunted walks in the city, and one of the walks is concentrated on this building. Ghost stories are plentiful, and the hostel has for some years not allowed people to stay on one floor with multiple disturbances. I can say having had been in there that I have very strongly felt an oppressive sense of not being alone here, that someone, unseen, is watching.
This seems creepy in every sense of the word.ReplyDelete
A building in which to stay in he gives fear.ReplyDelete
This building would be a crime stopper for some people.ReplyDelete
This "klink" appears to be in pretty good shape!ReplyDelete
Nah, I'm going to stay at the Marriott downtown! Yikes!ReplyDelete
Looks like a dark and ghostly tour!ReplyDelete
@Kay: it is!ReplyDelete
@Bill: it has that effect.
@Janis: they built it to last.
@Lowell: good idea.
@Furry Gnome: I can imagine it at night.
William goes to Not Facebook Jail!ReplyDelete
Even today , with electricity, it's still a dull dismal place.ReplyDelete
I've had my share of ghostly experiences, I'll pass on this one.ReplyDelete
I don't think I'd be rushing to tour this one!ReplyDelete
That's a pretty nasty looking place, interesting that you felt a 'presence' as well...glad you got out in one piece...ReplyDelete
i like that word 'gaol'. :) you can keep the ghosts, though.ReplyDelete
It is very dark!ReplyDelete
There are better places to stay for a while ... ;-)ReplyDelete
@Norma: yes, but not in awhile!ReplyDelete
@Red: that is true.
@Sharon: my flat has one that likes blues music.
@RedPat: it has been awhile since I did a ghost tour.
@Geoff: if any places are haunted, old prisons make sense.
@Tex: it is an old fashioned term.
@Linda: it is.
@Jan: and yet this is popular.
Is it still used as a jail? As it seems very liberal to be able to go in and take photos if it isReplyDelete
those are some tiny hallways ... i would get a bit claustrophobic in there for sure. : (ReplyDelete
The stairway with the window is nothing but light coming through--I keep telling myself. You should return with the Ghost Busters.ReplyDelete
The lighting certainly enhances the eerie atmosphere of this fascinating place. To close a whole floor level must mean that hauntings are taken seriously.ReplyDelete
I love it! know my late mother had the heebee jeebies in the pub in Bala. Me, not so much in place. Except for the carp bunker!ReplyDelete
@Mo: not since the 1970s.ReplyDelete
@Beth: it's a tight fit in some spots.
@Gemma: it would.
@Jennifer: I've got to get out to that bunker.
