Colours Within Confederation Park

I had a blast over the weekend at Doors Open, so I'll catch up with your blogs over the next couple of days. I've got over 350 fresh photos to sort through from the last two days.

Confederation Park is right downtown, a short walk away from Parliament Hill. Most of the tulips growing here this May were of the Canada 150 variety.

The park has some military monuments. This plaque commemorates Canadian airmen who died on missions over Poland during the Second World War, particularly during the Warsaw Uprising.

Nearby is the totem pole I showed you earlier in the series.

At the west side of the park stands another monument. This one is the National Aboriginal Veterans Monument, which incorporates four First Nations people with the eagle, the bear, the wolf, the bison, and the elk into an impressive tribute to those Indigenous people who have served in the military, especially in time of war.

  1. It would be such a pleasure to walk through areas this beautiful. Those Canada 150 tulips are really spectacular.
    Good luck paring down your Doors Open shots...350 sounds daunting!

  3. Wonderful - stories among the beauty- the kind of place I could wander in. Sadly, you'll have heard that a Canadian was among those murdered in London on Saturday; my thoughts for her family and all of those effected by that disgusting event.

  7. Beautiful tulips. Sad of the death of the Canadian . My husbands niece her daughter lives in London . She is a teacher. And she had been walking that day as everyone else but she had left a little sooner. My goodness it almost makes you want to wear a protective vest like the police to enjoy the outdoors.

  8. I love that top photo. It looks like flowers are surrounding you in all directions. They are on the ground and in the trees!

  9. Great combination of tulips and monuments.

  10. Love those bloomin' trees, too! That's the trouble with digital photography...it's too easy to take too many photos. In the days of film, it would cost a fortune to have 350 photos developed and printed! :)

  12. @Carolann: I've picked up the newspapers, and her death is featured prominently.

    @Sharon: the trees here seem to blossom all at once, in the second half of May, so I like photographing trees and tulips together when possible.

    @Red: thanks!

    @Lowell: it would!

    @Linda: thank you!

    @Marleen: thanks!

  20. @Tanya: thanks!

    @Janis: it's a wonderful monument.

    @Halcyon: indeed!

    @Lauren: I enjoy showing these off.

    @Cloudia: I had a lot of fun, though it is literally impossible to see everything, what with there being over 160 sites this year.

    @Grace: as long as I can get them all squared away before the month ends, I'll be happy. I'm sure they'll spill over into July, but that's okay.

    @Tom: me too.

    @RedPat: I agree!

    @Klara: you're welcome!
