A Colourful Pathway

I returned again to Dow's Lake and Commissioners Park a week ago today to see how the tulips were doing. Today's posts are from that visit. The tulips were starting to show.

Daffodils come out around the same time as tulips, and more often than not can be found in spots that are outside of the formal flowerbeds.

I continued along the path.

A large sculpture stands here in the park, one of a matching pair. Its twin stands in Apeldoorn in the Netherlands. Man With Two Hats is by the artist Hank Visch, and marks the friendship and bonds of the Canadian and Dutch people that sprang up out of liberation of the Netherlands at the end of the Second World War. The Tulip Festival finds its roots in that as well.

Continuing along the path, I photographed daffodils in the grass, with the lake in the background.

Here we have the beds that are typically the first to show in the park in terms of colours. The bed in the middle was the most colourful. Of course this draws what I call the Tulip Paparazzi, of which I am one of those ranks.

The park ends at the above houses, but the bike path continues along the Rideau Canal as it departs from the lake area. East of Bronson Avenue, another bed was full of a mix of colours.

  7. It is nice to see the man with two hats as opposed to politicians with two faces, of which Ottawa has an adundance.

  8. ...when we visited last year, the Dow's Lake area was a favorite. It's great to see colors other than white.

  9. So many flowers! Love the statue with the silliness of 2 hats. I admit I enjoyed the bed with multi colors. The others seem more formal. Guess I like flowers in the grass as well. What a wonderful place to enjoy such beauty1
