The first day of each month is a theme day for members of City Daily Photo. For September, that theme is Red. Take a look at how others are taking on the theme right here.
This is the Latvian flag, taken back in February during Winterlude. The Byward Market hosted the ice sculptures, and a Latvian pair carved one of the masterful sculptures. The flag with its distinctive red and white seemed good for this theme.
Here we have the flag after the breeze died down a bit, with the sculpture the carvers made in the background.
The Polish flag with its simple red and white stripes made a good choice for this theme as well. The red stands out well against the ice sculptures in the background.
This is Riley, the mascot of the Ottawa 67s hockey team. The 67s are an Ontario Hockey League team based out of the arena at Lansdowne Park, playing at the junior level below the NHL. The team finished first atop the league this past season, narrowly losing the championship in the finals. I photographed Riley in the concourse last winter during a game.
Each May Ottawa and Gatineau play host to the Canadian Tulip Festival, and there's plenty of red to be found in the flowerbeds. This set of tulips were found one day at Commissioners Park at Dow's Lake.
These ones were in Major's Hill Park.
As were these.
These were back at Dow's Lake.
The red and white pattern of the Canada 150 tulip can be seen here.
And these red tulips had one rogue pink tulip in the mix.
I close out with this shot from Canada Day at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau. Displayed in this case is the first Canadian flag to be flown over Parliament Hill upon its redesign.
Red (and green) - you´d feel home in our condo :-)
