Deck The Halls

Christmas lights are to be found in many places around the capital right now. This view from the Mackenzie King Bridge looks north over the Rideau Canal's final stretch, including landmarks like the National Arts Centre and Parliament Hill.

I was outside the National Gallery of Canada one evening, and took note of the Christmas tree inside the glass tower.

On another evening, I was passing through a series of courtyards in the Byward Market. This courtyard had lights about.

Confederation Park goes for a different kind of lighting, with coloured spotlights illuminating the trees, and ornament balls lit up here and there.

Here we have a view of lights around the National War Memorial.

Turning around gives us a view of the National Arts Centre.

I headed up into Major's Hill Park for some more lights, as seen here with the Connaught Building in the background.

And here was the view looking towards the U.S. embassy.

  1. The city's going to have a big bill for the electricity burned by all those lights! Looks festive though.

  23. Christmas lights are always so beautiful to see, but alas I never have good luck in photographing them, so thanks William for these photos. Nice too that there was snow as the snowfall we had here a couple of weeks ago is melting away. Merry Christmas to you!
