Stories Of Landscape

Continuing on where I left off, here's some of the Ottawa Art Gallery's permanent collection. Much of it comes from the Firestone family collection, acquired by the city. Landscape (Wheatfields) is a 1955 painting by Art McKay.

Automne (Fall) is the title of this 1959 abstract work by Alfred Pellan.

Joyce Frances Devlin painted Strathmere, Windy Day in 1975.

This 1978 painting by Philip Surrey is titled The Crossing.

The city of Ottawa has a large collection of the Group of Seven, courtesy of the Firestone collection. One of the later members of the Group was Edwin Holgate. This is Laurentians, dating to 1949.

For today I finish off with this. Ghitta Caiserman painted Self Portrait With Rose Bush in 1960.

  3. Good photo selection. All paintings are nice, but Surrey's, The Crossing, is a favorite. I think there has been more strong wind storms this season than usual.

  6. Art, in all its forms, is so critical to human satisfaction and the development of a civilized society. We may not agree with it always, nor understand it all, but we should rejoice in the fact that artists are free to follow their own creative impulses and not be directed by the dictates of the state.
