I begin a series today on Christmas around the National Capital. It's a series I do for my readers and not for myself, as this is consistently a difficult time of year for me and weighs heavily on my depression. In a few days that will lift, once the damned Christmas music stops being played everywhere one goes.
We begin one night in the Glebe neighbourhood, with lights around some residences.
This was at one of the restaurants at Lansdowne Park.
An office building downtown has been going through renovation work on its lower floors for some years, and I popped in one day and was surprised by how much work has been completed. It had been a month or two since I was last inside. The place was decorated for the holidays.
The next block over is another office block, with decorations of their own.
Back in the Glebe, this decor shop was all decked out.
This shop also looked ready for the holidays.
Beautiful photos. Sad there isn't a bah humbug song.
ReplyDeleteIf only.
DeleteVery kind of you to provide this experience for us. William. My heart reaches out to you. I know what it's like to just need to get through the day. And then another one. Fortunately, i know first hand that life can change and I hope you find that secret door in the garden wall that takes you to a happier place. You certainly deserve it friend. Aloha
ReplyDeleteIt's a tough one this December.
DeleteThank you for braving the glitter and artificial snow for the benefit of your readers, though most of the time I agree with you, William. Pass the Bah Humbugs, will you?
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
DeleteVery festive!
ReplyDeleteThat it is.
DeleteWe prefer to celebrate Christmas without glitter and stars. A few candles and a homemade Christmas piece are enough. But you took beautiful pictures of it for this new blog series.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteGood of you to power through. And don't get me started about Christmas music...
ReplyDeleteIt's Christmas music that sets off a depression this time of year, and it can't be avoided.
DeleteI hope that music stops soon, William!
ReplyDeleteMe too.
DeleteI stopped in at our local grocery store yesterday and the syrupy crap coming out of their PA system just about made me puke. Apart from its dreary repetition it has not one iota of musical merit. Why the store management feels the need to inflict this on all of us I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteI once asked that of a store manager at the Bay. She said every time they tried to have a period of time without the music, they'd get blowback from the Christmas crowd.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteLove all the decorations and the lights at night are so pretty. Thanks for sharing! Take care, have a happy day!
You're welcome.
DeleteBeautiful decorations. You take care.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteIt is a hard season for many of us William. The decorations lift the spirits a bit.
ReplyDeleteThey do.
DeletePretty pictures! I’m not a fan of December myself, but now the days will start to get longer and that helps.
ReplyDeleteI like the winter. For me it's the holiday.
Delete...thanks, January will be here soon.
ReplyDeleteTime flies.
DeleteThank you for showing the festive lights despite you finding it so difficult at this time of the year. Some very upmarket displays there.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely.
DeleteThanks, William. It will be ending soon.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
DeleteI think I can relate. Mom did fight till Dec 31st so I cannot say I skip Christmas.
ReplyDeleteAlso... it is a cheery time full of lights.
It was my mother's favorite time of year. That's part of what makes it hard.
DeleteYou got beautiful Xmas photos ~ Wow! ~
ReplyDeleteDo hope you feel better soon ~
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
Thank you.
DeleteEsas iluminaciones de Navidad, crea un bello ambiente.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteWell, thank you for sharing. Brave of you to do so. Winter and Christmas also make me feel depressed, so on my blog, I shared a restaurant now. No Christmas atmosphere. But it is tough, isn't it? I like seeing snow in your photos. It seems like winter without snow makes it even gloomier. Lovely greetings from the Netherlands.
ReplyDeleteThere is snow on the ground, and more coming tomorrow.
DeleteMy favorite is the red bow with the snow on it. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was a good snowfall.
DeleteNice variety, but I don't know whether to wish you Merry Christmas. :)
ReplyDeleteHumbug!
DeleteI love seeing the Christmas decorations! I will be leaving today for Christmas with the kidlets and probably not able to blog too much while I'm gone. So I send warm wishes for a very Merry Christmas to you.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you.
DeleteWell, your readers are grateful.
ReplyDeleteI've been up and down lately. Thank you.
You're welcome.
DeleteI enjoyed your photographs and appreciate you showing the festive lights despite you finding it so difficult at this time of the year.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you.
DeleteThank you for sharing even though difficult for you. I have avoided most of the music so far:)
ReplyDeleteI can't escape it.
