We pick up today with A Meeting Of The School Trustees, a dramatic 1885 oil painting by Robert Harris.
Another dramatic work- The Flood Gate, by Homer Watson, circa 1900-01.
William Raphael painted Bonsecours Market, Montreal in 1880.
In the latter 19th century and early 20th century, it was the expectation of Canadian artists, as was the case south of the border, to spend time in Europe learning the ways of art there. This area looks at some of their works, with a pair from Venice.
James Wilson Morrice painted Prow Of A Gondola, Venice in 1897.
This is St. Mark's, Venice, a 1901 oil painting by Henry Sandham.
Here we have Ponte Vecchio, Florence, by Emily Coonan, circa 1921.
A Wreath Of Flowers is an 1884 painting by William Brymner.
