Gallery

A couple of weeks back, I was debating on a museum to go to for a new series. As it turns out, the National Gallery of Canada won out. I approached from Major's Hill Park, taking this shot on the way.

The National Gallery has roots stretching back into the 19th century, but its current headquarters is here, on high ground overlooking the Ottawa River.

Heading to the main entrance, I took this shot looking towards Notre Dame, neighbour to the Gallery.

Out front is a large sculpture that gives pause to those who suffer from arachnophobia. Maman is by Louise Bourgeois.

The banner alongside the glass wall of the Gallery is in fact a work of art. Honouring A Long View is a 2024 work by Jin-Me Yoon.

Inside, I took these shots looking up at the glass panes of a water fountain within the Gallery.

The way up to the exhibition spaces is along a long ramp. Hanging overhead is a work of art by Shuvinai Ashoona and John Noestheden, called Earth and Sky.

An interactive work hangs in the glass tower, though I missed its title. Microphones hanging down allow the visitor to speak or sing, and the sounds travel along the spirals of wires, lighting things up.

A look out the windows towards Parliament Hill.

And a look up at the top of the tower.
