Skating

As I mentioned yesterday, I am closing down the series on Winterlude with three posts from one last trip on the Rideau Canal for this year. Appropriately, my visits when taking pictures were at night, which tends to be quieter. The Canal can be very busy during the day. For this occasion, I met the Canal a short distance beyond the Pretoria and 417 bridges, which are in the distance in this shot, and where I'd left off during my last trip.

I was heading downtown, taking pictures both forward and back.

The University of Ottawa has its campus here along one shore.

Around the last bend, with Centretown on the left and the university on the other.

We'll leave off here today. The Corktown Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that links Centretown with Sandy Hill, the neighbourhood that is home to the university.

  1. Great photos of the skaters at night. The last shot is my favorite with the bridge.
Take care, have a great day and happy week ahead.

  2. ...plenty of room, but is the ice becoming thin?

    1. Now it would not be safe to walk on. When last I looked some days ago, vehicles were on the ice removing things.

  3. Skating at night would be quiet. You would only hear the blades.

  5. FIne night time photography of skating on the ice. That will not be possible for much longer as the sun gains strength.

    1. Already over. Just a matter of time before the ice breaks up.
