Back in March, on the last day of skating on the Rideau Canal, I took a series of shots on the Bank Street Bridge. I left one aside, with a view of Southminster United Church, as a comparison shot.
Here we have the same general view of the church, taken in late May.
I expect I'll get some comments in regards along the lines of how dare you post a picture with snow and I'm calling in a favour from a hit-ferret! Rest assured that's the last of my winter shots. We'll just have to wait for the first snow. I expect it in late August.
If only in your dreams, August !
ReplyDeleteWe are on a cooling trend only 98 today. Break out the sweaters !
cheers, parsnip
I like both photos, William, and I am sure you know which one I prefer. :)
ReplyDeleteI know you love snow but I prefer spring!
ReplyDeleteAwww. Poor William, counting the days 'til it snows again. And with the crazy weather now he may actually be applauding snowflakes in late August!
ReplyDeleteYou are perfectly right in posting these two images: I always like comparisons, and this one gives us a good idea of the difference of weather in only three monts. We do not have such dramatic changes...
ReplyDeleteExpect snow in the latter part of august ...Is not very soon ... ?.
ReplyDeleteTomás.
Hahaha... you can post all the snow you want! It's what Canada's know for, eh? ;-)
ReplyDeleteDon't mind the snow shot as I love then and now photos. You know you should also do a fall photo. Those trees will be lovely.

Clever you. I always enjoy watching comparisons like this one.
ReplyDeleteWow! The water level sure looks high.
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to see the changing of the seasons.
ReplyDeletesnowing is very cool. ha. ha!! ( :
ReplyDeleteOh no--more snow!
ReplyDeletebite your tongue..we had better not see snow until the week before Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteI like both but I'm a bit partial to the snow scene!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe growth of flora certainly does hide the church well! Snow in August? You are joking, right?
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference a few months make! ;))
ReplyDeleteAll those trees cover up that church completely!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference, looks like these are two completely different locations...
ReplyDelete@Parsnip: I've read somewhere that Ottawa has, at some point, had measurable amounts of snow in every month but July since records were kept on weather.
ReplyDelete@Linda: I think I'm going to be vastly outnumbered by my love of snow.
@Linda: spring certainly did spring here!
@Kay: I would!
@VP: here we do see dramatic differences in seasons. And we're not that far off until summer officially gets started.
@Tomas: it could happen!
@Halcyon: there are no doubt some people who literally believe a wall of snow year round starts at the Canadian border.
@Janis: I will.
@Stefan: thanks!
@Revrunner: the Canal levels get raised up during the spring through fall to allow for boat traffic. They seal up the access gates from the Rideau River, later in fall to lower water levels for the winter, hence the difference.
@Marianne: it is.
ReplyDelete@Beth: I love snow!
@Norma: I thought you'd say that!
@Gill: oh, much earlier than that!
@Ciel: thank you!
@Lowell: I was surprised looking at the spring shot just how much the deciduous trees there really make such a difference in exposure of the church.
@EG: yes, and warm temperatures. The leaves weren't like that at the beginning of May.
@Sharon: they certainly do.
@Karl: it is quite a difference.
What a difference a season makes!
ReplyDeletei totally needed the cool-down. thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'll post a winter shot some July day with temps hitting 90s... cursing the heat. My memory is short about some things.
ReplyDeleteThe trees have been busy in the last month or so, making shade. I like to see these comparison shots.
ReplyDeleteI, too, like comparison shots. The growth is so lush.
ReplyDeleteMB
i like that comparison shots but prefer the warmer version! although today we are supposed to be in the 90's so i might like the snowy shot a little later today :)
ReplyDeleteI love winter as well as spring, so I can't make a choice.
ReplyDelete@Cheryl: absolutely!
ReplyDelete@Tex: you're welcome.
@Birdman: snow shots would be welcome in hot humid days.
@Judy: the leaves came out quickly, it seems.
@MB: very lush indeed.
@Tanya: we're relatively mild today. I have no idea what the weather's going to do as the day progresses.
@Jan: it's a bit split today!
Last night we got quite a spectacular show here in Montreal with that thunderstorm! Thunder, lightning, rain...I love storms, too, but of course I don't like the damage they sometimes cause. It is cooler, refreshing and I love it. :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing the contrasts you show us!
ReplyDeleteEt vive la différence!
ReplyDeleteAmazing difference.No wonder we like summer so much!
ReplyDeleteAnd that shows how we often take pictures in winter that just aren't available in the summer!
ReplyDeleteWe had a nasty little snow storm to drive through in April, so August, might be about right.
ReplyDeleteAmazing the difference.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty big difference in the two shots - and just a couple of months between.
ReplyDelete@Linda: we got it last evening as well, a deluge of rain.
ReplyDelete@Jose: thanks!
@Luiz: quite a difference.
@Red: ah, but I love the winter!
@RedPat: yes, the tree leaf loss really opens things up.
@Whisk: I've seen snow in May.
@Janey: I thought so.
@Susie: once it warms up, the leaves come out quickly.
It's 13/June as I write this and I'm freezing today.
DeleteSo weird. Even for us.
I like the snow pictures, don't be shy of posting them please, I'll look forward to late August...
ReplyDeleteA dramatic change.
ReplyDeleteAs hot as it is at my house, I like seeing the snow!
ReplyDeleteI like both shots but can wait for the snow.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I did think 'what the...!' for a moment there William :) but I did enjoy the comparison.. love the winter image.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what changes three months can make.
ReplyDeleteI really believe in before and after photos. We really should appreciate the 3" of rain we got yesterday, too! :-)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed both photos. The Seasons.
ReplyDelete@Geoff: snow rules.
ReplyDelete@Mari: definitely.
@Lois: so do I.
@Randy: winter is the best.
@Grace: thank you!
@ODP: that's true.
@Jennifer: indeed.
@Carolann: thanks!
