Some more of the outdoor ice sculptures erected in Confederation Park. These were quite suitably sized for posing beside or behind. The mushroom in the fourth shot was one of several- these are used for interactive activities with kids, who can stick coloured blocks of ice onto the surfaces. That I didn't photograph.
This bench was erected in the shelter where the pairs sculptures were. It's possible that one of the sculptures came apart after the first weekend- this worker was putting some finishing touches on this replacement.
Two stilt walkers were crossing Laurier Avenue out of the park on their way to City Hall. I'll have these two again before I'm done with the Winterlude series (which is going to take me more than a month from my start date, by the way). I don't know if these might have been the same stilt walkers I featured some days ago.
Beautiful ice sculptures. I wonder how it will feel being up there as a stilt walker....
ReplyDeleteThese sculptors are really talented! Glad to see this event every year on your blog.
ReplyDeleteLove the owl in the first shot William, the bench could be a wee bit chilly to sit on :) those stilt walkers have an incredible sense of balance!
ReplyDeleteThe owl and fish are my favorites. Do they light up the sculptures at night?
ReplyDeleteThat owl looks the best I think.
ReplyDeleteI do love these ice sculptures
ReplyDelete@Nancy: it requires good balance!
ReplyDelete@Halcyon: I am glad to show it.
@Grace: they do!
@Bill: yes. I will show them at the end of the series.
@Marianne: I particularly like that one.
@Mo: I do too.
Que trabalho primoroso
ReplyDeleteAs esculturas são fabulosas
Um dia feliz
Um abraço
Another lovely show of ice sculptures and the stilt walkers were fascinating.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Ottawa could use a dose of sunshine; but then, those sculptures would melt.

i'd be scared to walk on those stilts with so much ice around...who am i kidding, i'd be scared to walk on those stilts under perfect conditions ha!
ReplyDeleteI would think that stilt walking my be a bit more dangerous when there is ice on the streets.
ReplyDeleteDoes Canada have a moose stamp? If so, I want one!
ReplyDeleteThe first and the third shot are my favorites today.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen anyone walking on stilts for a long time. I remember trying to accomplish that when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteYou show us soooo many wonderful ice sculptures, William !
ReplyDeleteThanks !!
Pretty spooky stilt walkers! I'm not sure of their connection to winterlude.
ReplyDelete@Gracita: thank you!
ReplyDelete@Denise: I got them on the last weekend as well, and they seemed to be vocalizing, almost like a trill. Hard to describe.
@Janis: we do get a lot of grey days in the winter.
@Tanya: I imagine they have some skill in taking a fall.
@Sharon: there seemed to be limited areas they were walking in-I never saw them go off pavement.
@Norma: I imagine there's been one by now.
@Jan: thanks!
@Linda: I tried it a time or two.
@Karl: you're welcome.
@Red: neither am I!
I can never get bored looking at those sculptures. They are amazing - I especially love the fish!
ReplyDeleteAs a child, I played walking on stilts - they look different from the ones here but the same concept :-)
So many talented people... including for walking unnaturally!
ReplyDeleteGreat works!
ReplyDeleteThe costuming on the stilt walkers is fabulous!
ReplyDeletelove the fish, or water creature. ( :
ReplyDeletehappy week!
@Tamago: the detail on the fish was remarkable.
ReplyDelete@Ciel: very unnatural!
@VP: I think so.
@RedPat: it certainly is!
@Beth: thanks!
I have always admired people who can walk on stilts.
ReplyDeleteLike the pedestrian sign behind the stilt walkers. ;-)
ReplyDeleteStiltwalkers in a land of ice are courageous, or foolish indeed! There's a moral in there somewhere, William. Love your poetic post title today.
ReplyDeletethe fish really showed up well.
ReplyDeleteI'm pleased to see the stilt walkers appears to be using pedestrian crossing with the road.....
ReplyDelete@Marleen: it's quite a skill.
ReplyDelete@Revrunner: indeed- that crossing is a pedestrian crossing only; plenty of foot traffic between the park and city hall all year around.
@Cloudia: well, they did have volunteers assisting them across!
@Tex: it did.
@Geoff: it's a good crossing- but they're actually taller than the banners, so they have to bend down to get through!
I think the owl in the first shot is my favorite one in this collection.
ReplyDeleteNever tire of the sculptures.
ReplyDeleteInterative ice sculptures! Great idea! The fish looks real enough to mount!
ReplyDeleteThey are wonderful. Thanks for sharing your photos!
ReplyDelete(ツ) from Cottage Country Ontario !
The clear ones are nice. They look like clear glass. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love the fish...and the stilt walkers are another interesting part of a fascinating show.
ReplyDelete@Lois: it's a good one.
ReplyDelete@Mari: I love them.
@Cheryl: yes it does.
@Jennifer: you're welcome.
@Carolann: a pleasure to do so.
@Kay: that they are.
