City Daily Photo Theme Day- Where I Belong

The first day of each month is always a theme day for members of City Daily Photo. For the first of March, that theme is Where I Belong, or Where Do You Belong. The idea comes from JB, who splits his time between two parts of the world and posts at Mainz Daily Photo and Not The Nelson Daily Photo. You can find other takes on this theme at this link.

I decided to go a bit large scale on this theme. I'm in the midst of a series on Winterlude, our winter festival that takes place in the first half of February in Ottawa and Gatineau. Confederation Park is one of the main sites for the festival, and among the ice sculptures here are other things. I photographed this series of large panels set up by the government in the park. They're a nod to the 150th anniversary of the country's Confederation next year, and consist of photo mosaics from each province and territory across the nation. They seemed perfect for the theme- where else do I belong but Canada, from coast to coast to coast?

  21. Something must have been wrong with the water as the Sask mosaic shows mountains and no prairie?

    @Susie: I have more ice sculptures to come before I'm done.

    @Carolann: you're welcome.

    @Red: I wondered about that- I think a couple of the pics on that were reversed or mixed- the mountains would apply to the Territories, while the lake in the right could be in Saskatchewan's north.

    @Bill: thank you!

    @Karl: I am!

    @SRQ: That's true!

    @Ciel: I thought so.

    @Marleen: thank you.

  31. A creative way to present images detailing the many 'faces' of a country.

  32. Ah, good choice! You've got it all covered here though I'm a bit surprised. I half expected a snow-filled scene somewhere.

  38. You are a wonderful tour director!
    Perth is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. There are, I think, 4 things planned! It's a pretty white town, but they did bring in a Syrian family. They rather stand out and they are welcomed where ever they go, in recognition!

  40. Sorry I missed the Theme day. I think I would be hard pressed to say where I belong though. France undoubtly, but beyond that I have no regional attachments - I'm neither a Parisian nor an Provençal.
    Your post makes me think of another Canadian (French Canadian) Gilles Vigneault's wonderful song "mon pays ce n'est pas un pays, c'est l'hiver..." - a declaration of love to his country in winter!

    @Mo: if you're ever here, look me up.

    @Nathalie: yes, that fits Canada.
