I came across something unusual in Gloucester: a horse pasture with a mother and colt. There was a saddlery business attached to the property, with a barn, hence the horses. It just seemed odd in the midst of an urban area. The mother was content to graze in the early morning light, while the colt came right up to the fence to say hello.
Beautiful, William, and I especially like photo #3!
ReplyDeleteThat fence sure made it difficult to get a good photo. I'm sure they get lots of attention.
ReplyDeleteLovely little colt! I am back, as you see, and will be visiting more often.
ReplyDeleteWhere are all the curious children
ReplyDeleteGood to see that the horses have a large area where they can walk and eat.
ReplyDeleteneat ... looks like a quiet area for the horses. ( :
ReplyDelete@Linda: thanks!
ReplyDelete@Red: I expect they do!
@Pat: good to see you back.
@Mo: it was quite early in the morning. I imagine they were waking up.
@Marleen: it seemed to be a good sized pasture.
@Beth: well, there is a road nearby.
Lots of lovely lush green grass there William, good to see 😊
ReplyDeletehow neat! the zoning must have been grandfathered in! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a pity of that ugly fence, but still ... I like the second photo where we can see mother and child.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sight to see in an urban area.
ReplyDeleteHe really did come right up and say hello. Neato.
ReplyDelete@Grace: plenty of room for the two of them.
ReplyDelete@Tex: it must have been.
@Jan: yes, it's a typical city fence, not at all the sort of fence you think of with horses. I didn't have much of a choice- the colt was more eager to come right up to the fence and block any shot if I wanted to put the lens through a space.
@Bill: it was quite a surprise.
@Whisk: he was quite friendly.
Such a friendly colt to say hello to you in the early morning! Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteWilliam, I forgot to mention something. Just seeing this sweet colt come up to you and say hello reminds me of something that happened many years ago. I was with a couple of friends and we saw some horses on a farm enclosure. This enclosure was very large and they had plenty of space. As it were, the horses were quite far away, so I said to my friends, "I will call them." LOL! So I made some sounds similar to when I call a cat...and it worked! They came over to greet us. I really enjoyed the experience. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is not strange at all here in Ocala. We live in an urban subdivision but surrounded which is surrounded by small horse farms. And that's rather nice.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful colt! I hope they are enjoying urban life :-)
ReplyDeleteThere are a few places here in Phoenix where horses and even llamas roam on lots in the city.
ReplyDeleteThe city encroaching on the rural properties!
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise to see horses on your blog!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis brings back memories from many, many years ago!
ReplyDelete@Nancy: I expect that colt likes company.
ReplyDelete@Linda: horses will definitely do that!
@Lowell: it's a nice touch... but unexpected. The only other horse corral I can think of here are the RCMP stables, east of the city core.
@Tamago: they must be used to seeing the traffic. The street nearby seems to be a busy one.
@Sharon: Llamas can be real characters.
@RedPat: or the reverse. This spot isn't that far away from greenbelt areas.
@Jennifer: yes, it was a surprise to see them.
@Norma: good memories, I expect.
An unexpected peaceful scene :)
ReplyDeleteNow THAT'S a fence worthy of "Good Fences". http://run-a-roundranch.blogspot.com/2016/10/good-fences-136.html
ReplyDeletecute tough little horses!
ReplyDeleteNice lines in the colt.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a surprise in the city, albeit a pleasant one.
ReplyDeleteIt may be unusual, but what a lovely visual gift!
ReplyDelete@Debs: quite unexpected.
ReplyDelete@Revrunner: good idea, but the link up is closed.
@Cloudia: they looked well cared for.
@Mari: indeed.
@Kay: it was!
@Kate: yes, it was.
The little colt looks like an adorable character. It may be a city area, but at least the grass looks green and fresh for the horses.
ReplyDeleteHe- or she- was adorable!
