A Visit To Rideau Falls

After my time in New Edinburgh, I stopped at Rideau Falls, where the Rideau River tumbles into the Ottawa River. The park here offers great views of the falls, and both sides of the Ottawa River. There are two branches of the falls here, with Green Island between them; this first post features the east branch. And if you want to see these falls in action, check out this video I took that day.

The park around the falls features several monuments, most of them military in nature. This one on Green Island commemorates Allied pilots killed on training missions in Canada through the Second World War. And even though this was Labour Day, as you can see in the concluding shot especially, a couple of the trees were starting to turn colours. I'm planning on coming back to the area on Monday- odds are those trees will have lost their leaves by now, while the rest will be turning. I have more from here tomorrow.

  11. @Tex: they're always a delight to see.

    @Sharon: that seems to be the common opinion.

    @Grace: thanks!

    @Linda: thank you.

    @Red: it's an ideal park setting for that, all around here. They'd have been wise to put the War of 1812 Memorial here, but that had been a Harper decision, and the HarperBot 3000 wanted it where it went.

  12. Hey William. Thanks for your comment on CC. I did see De Niro's comments which surprised me as I had thought De Niro was a Republican conservative. But maybe I got that wrong.

  21. I especially like those views where the city is in the background. But they're all very nice. We have trees that started turning in late August - early September. I went looking for fall color the other day and half the trees had already lost their leaves (we had a gale the night before; that didn't help).
